Besides making a new album that includes people of such calibre as John Goodsall and Bill Bruford, I am working on a project by musician Paul D'Adamo. On his project I am strictly doing artwork. The music itself is handled by Paul and his amazing array of musicians. Chester Thompson (Genesis, Phil Collins, weather Report and Frank Zappa) and Charlie Morgan (Elton John) share the drum dutties. Daryl Stuermer (Genesis, Phil Collins, Jean-Luc Ponty) on guitars, Leland Sklar (Phil Collins plus a million others) on bass, Luis Conte (Phil Collins, Jackson Brown and another million people) on percussion, Amy Keys, Gerald Albright, Arnold McCuller and Lynn Fiddmont on vocals and the talented Brad Cole (Phil Collins, Gino Vanelli, Supertramp, Frank Zappa) on keys and behind the board in the studio.

Paul's album although very different from mine, has something in common with my project. The album is composed of some original material mixed in with some Genesis and some Phil Collins songs. The project is nearing completion with all the recording and mastering already finished. Some of the artwork has also been done and pretty soon there will be promotional copies floating about radio stations around the globe. soon after that, the album will be available for retail and in digital form.

Next week we are having some meetings in New York to finalise the last details on the project. In essence, Phil Collins' touring band is Paul's studio band. So there will be a bunch of the people involved in the project at the same places at the same time. It goes without saying that we'll take a break to watch Phil and the band perform the "new/old" motown material. I understand one of the shows will be recorded on video for a future DVD. Also, there will be a video crew on hand to record some of the meetings. There will also be a DVD documenting the making of Paul's album.

Regardless of what your thoughts may be about people doing cover songs, Paul's album deserves an objective listen. They done a fantastic job with the recording having it all done without MIDI or even the slightest auto tuning correction. I also hear that a European tour is in the works or at least in the planning stages. Either way, this is a very big effort done in a very big way. Not your typical unsigned band record.
