I LOVE Yes and most of the bands that sound similar to them. When I say "clone" band I don't mean that they COPY Yes, just that they have a sound that is closely related to the sound of Yes.

If you chose "Other" please let me know what you would have picked. I am always interested to know what bands have a similar sound to Yes especially any new bands.

OOOOH...

If you haven't heard of these bands BUT you (not just you alchemist but anybody) really like 70's Yes and wouldn't mind listening to bands that sound similar then any of these are great. The best of these IMO are Cathedral, Starcastle, England, The Flower Kings, Welcome, You & I, Relayer, Druid, Cherry Five, Flash and Blue Shift.

Course if you don't much care for 70's Yes (or don't like bands that sound similar to others) you probably won't enjoy most of these bands either LOL

I have heard The Flower Kings, but I can't relate them much to Yes, well only the symphonicity (this isn't an invented word is it?) in the music...

Exactly, The Flower Kings have a similar symphonic sound but are definately not a "clone" of Yes. Starcastle, Cathedral, Druid and Blue Shift though are VERY similar to Yes. Cathedral has a bit of King Crimson sound too but the bassist and keyboardist are disciples of Squire and Wakeman.  The music is not well worth listening too.  I wish they were easier to find on CD though!

i do not believe all those bands are yes clones!

i only know starcastle and it is quite similar, and glass hammer has some yes elements, but it is definitely not a clone.

Very true, Greenback. Like I said in my opening statement, "When I say "clone" band I don't mean that they COPY Yes, just that they have a sound that is closely related to the sound of Yes."

Don't get too technical, it's a generalization. If you like Yes, you will probably like most of these bands because they sound similar. I will have to check out Glass Hammer...

If you enjoy Yes run out and get the first two Starcastle albums (Starcastle and Fountains of Light) put it in your CD player and crank it up!! Their third album Citadel is very listenable but much more pop oriented. After that .......forget it.

The Flower Kings is definitely not a clone of Yes, they are actually  very varied and creative. I'll say The Flower Kings because they are on the poll

I picked up Starcastle's first album and thought it was all right. I don't listen to it much, though, it starts to bore me after a while.

The first Starcastle is a very good symphonic prog album with a definite American rock sound similar to Yes meets Styx. Good stuff. Their second album was their best and for sure most consistant. The title song being a minor classic.
