Note to new listeners: These songs are all part of my "mini opera" Ashflame (a work in progress). I use an awful lot of MIDI-files — eventually I hope to be able to replace at least some of them with "real" instruments.
There will be more singers (two of them have to be female), more electric guitar and more drums/percussion. What you hear is basically the very first mix, but even though the end product will be different, the compositions will hopefully shine through whatever weaknesses there are. Here are the links: 1. Afterthoughts and Permutations http://www.supload.com/listen?s=Tc2FMt Still working on the 12th song (a long one), after that only one more (short) song. Cheers! I tried to upload the 12th track, Violent Night, but apparently the file was too big. I have now downloaded the first part of it (hopefully the second part will follow next week):
http://www.supload.com/listen?s=Ipjhfy I forgot to submit the lyrics, but here they are: 12. VIOLENT NIGHT, part I Ashflame: Sweet revenge, Fate’s beautiful daughter Old man’s sleeping, sheep to the slaughter Age is only Past dressed in Present Easy does it, easy and pleasant
Damon: The brat is creeping He thinks I’m sleeping It’s hardly a surprise, I read his eyes They spelled ‘Murder’ Creep, creep on further
Ashflame: What is this? My evil demon isn’t there My dagger sliced through empty air That eerie ease was a surprise It’s not like this when someone dies
A bolt of lightning And in the flash I glimpsed my foe He’s got an awl but now I know What now? My mother’s coming out She’s walking in her sleep, no doubt What is she murmuring about?
Ashley: Don’t cry All lost and gone So long ago, no need for salty water He told me I had flowers in my eyes He stole my soul, he took my breath away Don’t go into that night!
I wonder if our baby’s still alive He was so sweet, a comfort to his mother So long ago. Don’t cry.
Damon: Can’t strike now My wife’s between my foe and me It’s dark as hell, but still I see I sense their presence through the gloom I’ll lead them to my hobby room
Ashley: Letters in the sand That was our youth: eight letters in the sand I was already married to another A demon came and wiped our words away He killed my love and left my heart in shards So long. Don’t go. Don’t cry. Goodbye. |

Checked your newest track ... mellowly dramatic Neo-symph in the vein of Genesis, Peter Gabriel ... splendid one.

Thanks a lot!
As I wrote, this is only the first half of the song. In the second half (which I hope to upload next week) the protagonist, Ashflame, fights against his stepfather, Damon. In the end Damon kills Ashflame, only to be killed by Ashflame’s mother, Ashley — who also kills herself. Then I end my "opera" with this short song: http://www.supload.com/listen?s=hQX7AM Apparently I cannot post lyrics at Supload anymore, so I’ll post them here: 13. MEANINGLESS CONCLUSION Ashflame:
You had your will
You nearly made me kill
A sick inversion of a theme
This tiny civil war
It doesn’t matter anymore
I’ve left your morbid dream
Why should I grieve
as I’m about to leave?
Where I am bound you cannot KTEL
This dark and final kiss –
does it mean eternal bliss
or oblivion or hell?
I fought your revolution
to a meaningless conclusion
Split seconds last our lives upon this earth
What was my contribution?
A spectre, an illusion!
You wrote my life, my death, my curse, my birth.
Seeing that you live in Japan, I wish you and the Japanese people all the best in these difficult times. |

Finally, here’s the second half of the 12th song: http://www.supload.com/listen?s=8KGYJC VIOLENT NIGHT, part II Ashflame:
My mother
turns away and leaves the scene
Nobody can
prevent this hell-o-we’en
The moon
breaks through the clouds and lights the hall
Small
wooden figures decorate each wall
Celestial
reporter 1:
Ashflame is
charging, his dagger held high
Slashing
through sawdust, the figurines fly
Celestial
reporter 2:
But Damon’s
prepared, he’s not ready to die
Celestial
reporter 1:
What a
show!
Celestial
reporter 2:
A fatal
blow
will fall
Celestial
reporter 1:
Dodging
shapes
Celestial
reporter 2:
The boy
escapes
the awl
Celestial
reporter 1:
Fighting
with fury the boy tries a lob
Celestial
reporter 2:
It’s easily
blocked with a knock on the gob
Celestial
reporter 1:
The old man
is doing a beautiful job!
The young
man spins around, he’s trying to make
a leap to
the sill where the rain has left a pool
Celestial
reporter 2:
This is the
end, he’s made a big mistake:
He slithers
and falls and sprawls! Ah! Fate is cruel!
Celestial
reporter 1:
Ashflame’s
lost his knife!
Celestial
reporter 2:
The awl
descends and Ashflame ends
his life
Ashley:
My demon
diamond, hark! We have to go
We cannot
linger here; our birth is nigh
It is your
glory that my baby’s dead
That we
shall follow him will be mine
I contacted the spanish composer and violinist Ricardo Odriozola (who is a fan of VdGG and King Crimson) to hear what he thought about the chances of getting my music played and recorded by professional musicans. He answered that my chances would probably be much better if I could use a sinfonietta instead of a whole symphony orchestra, so now I’m rewriting the score with that in mind. When that is done, I will contact Oslo Sinfonietta and hear what they think. Edited by refugee - March 30 2011 at 11:12 |
