Are they prog or what.? They are in my top 5 alltime favorites. They have a consistancy like noone else. They have the same line-up since 1970.They write their own stuff, they are still touring, and still writing and releasing.Any fans out there. Moontan is ofcourse their most famous lp,but there is sooooo much more. Edited by gr8dane |

All I've heard so far is Moontan, and other than the first two tracks
(Radar Love and Candy's Going Bad), I'd say it's prog. Vanilla Queen is
probably the best song on the album. A record store near my house has a
live album of theirs on vinyl, I plan to get it soon.

Golden Earring certainly have some prog elements and may be on par with Alquin, another Dutch group. Are You Receiving Me is certainly prog material. My favourite Golden Earring track (nice acoustic into turning into a good little rocker): Jangelene I've been listening to the The Complete Naked Truth album of late. The unplugged version of Radar Love is superb. |

I think Golden Earring are kinda prog, just maybe not in a Yes-sense. They're more prog than some of the other stuff on this site.

No, classic rock I think. They did had some progressive periods, psychedilcs in the late 60's, with songs like I've Just Lost Somebody, and the Byrds cover Eight Miles High, 19 minutes of sheer brilliance. And of course the brilliant Moontan, Seven Tears and Switch, which all leant on progressive rock on occassion. But overall it's very good classic rock, with more resemblens to Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, and the Who, than with progressive rock acts. Instrumentalists are all good, Fabulous guitar play from George Kooymans, one of the best rock-bassist IMO, Rinus Gerritsen, and a great drummer, who'm I consider to be in the same league as Bill Bruford, Neil Peart and more of that type. I love the Golden Earring, but I will never refer to them as progressive rock. Edited by tuxon |

Ce Soir has alot of information on the recording
industry in the mid 70's and it aint nice! Great song but you could be murdered for pushing the envelope, government control was rearing its ugly(satanic) head! if you are enlightened! |

I would recommend finding copies of Together, Seven Tears and Moontan to have a listen to, as well as the recently released Naked Truth set. |

Eight Miles High (69) is definitely proggish especially the four tracks on the first side. The Byrds title track on side 2 is OK but not superb (3.5/5) Golden Earring (also called Walls Of Dolls )(70) is many times prog and sounds a bit like Jethro Tull.(4/5) Together (72) is a bit weaker but has two or three good/excellent tracks(3/5) Seven Tears (72) is another fave of mine(4/5) Moontan (73) is mostly known for Radar Love but the rest of the album is also fine (4/5) Switch (74) , they added a KBdist but I find that they were going downhill by that time , some progheads thinking otherwise.(3/5) To The Hilt and Contraband (75 &76) have not much I like (2/5) but the live album that comes in 77 is excellent - a suitable intro for newbies From 79 on , albums are really very common RNR but with some neat tunes here and there (Twilight Zone , Devil Made Me Do It etc.... Lead singer Barry Hayhas a flawless english accent and made an excellent solo album called Parrots and Seers (I think) Before Eight Miles High , they were called The Golden Earrings and were very poppish/psychish Edited by Sean Trane |

great history Sean Trane on a under appreciated
band. Up there with the best of American bands and a shade below the top few english bands. They are the gem of holland, with Focus in the rearview mirror. http://home.wanadoo.nl/casper.roos/story00.html Edited by DallasBryan |

One of my favourite bands from the non prog category. Elements of prog at times but just good honest top quality rock with a jazzy, bluesy feel at times. (Amazing live and Cesar Zuiderwijk is the only drummer who can jump out of his seat clean over his kit and land at the front of the stage - I saw him do it live and still wonder how he did it!) Hearing Earring - 4.5/5 Moontan - 5/5 (Vanilla Queen is particularly amazing although everything is top notch) Live - 4/5 Swithch is the best of the rest
