Topic: Second Karda Estra live video on Youtube Posted: December 31 2009 at 08:32
Hello everyone,
I've uploaded a new video to Youtube - it's a new live version of 'John Deth': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWpq7W6b2k0
Musicians are: Richard Wileman - classical guitar and composer, Jemima Palfreyman - piano, Amy Hedges - clarinet. Recorded at Jemima's house on 29th December 2009.
'John Deth' is one of the older Karda Estra tunes and was originally released on the album 'Thirteen From The Twenty First.' You can hear the original studio recording here: http://www.last.fm/music/Karda+Estra/Thirteen+From+The+Twenty+First/John+Deth
The piece was originally inspired by the painting 'John Deth' by Edward Burra which can be viewed here: http://tinyurl.com/y8nbqlg
Hope you enjoy the new video and best wishes for 2010,

I find this scaled down acoustic Karda Estra version very appealing in sound, beautiful. And suddenly I had a thought of hearing the opposite - the Orchestral Karda Estra, with a full orchestra etc, but then it's very hard work, arranging the music, writing a part for each instrument etc. but I could picture it in my head...
just rambling, sorry...
Happy new year Richard and looking forward to more music from KE.

Hi
Assaf,
Many thanks - not rambling at all!
The new acoustic/live version KE is quite straightforward to do - a bit of practice/arrangement - then a meet up and video it. As it's live, there's no real editing etc, just try and get the best levels and add a touch of reverb /eq and up on Youtube by the next day.
The studio tracks are a lot more work of course with lots of recording and editing and they take usually between one and three months per piece.
A version with orchestra as you rightly say would be a lot of work too - be it live/video or for studio/album use. Potentially very expensive too. It buzzes around in the back of my head though. Mike Ostime (who plays trumpet for KE at the moment also is in two local orchestras and we've had a 'what if' conversation, so who knows....maybe one day).

I JUST LOVE THIS MUSIC!! I've only recently discovered KE and simply can't get enough! I've just received "Eve", "Constellations", and "The Age of Science and Enlightenment" and love EVERY piece and can't wait to get more (when I can afford it). I am so GLAD music like this is being made--especially in light of my being a acoustic guitar lover, having four teenage daughters who play double bass, baritone, piano/voice/cello, and oboe/chor anglais/keyboards/guitars/electric bass. KE gives us inspiration to (try to) create music of our own!!

lol, Assaf - of course I could always call it - Karda ORCHestra! (see I have been thinking about it ...) Very rich sponsers / patrons of prog orchestral projects, please send your money to ....
Hello BrufordFreak - hmmm - your info seems very similar to an e-mail I received a couple of days ago so I think I know who you are ;o) ... I'm very flattered to think I'm inspiring a family of musicians in some part - I hope you have a good time doing it - it's a great line up!
