This is also a band with an album released as both free download and CD purchase by the Asiluum net label. Free download here: http://asiluum.com/site/2009/10/15/discordless-148-light-years/

The music is not something new in general or to PA, but it's difficult to ascribe to PA sub-genres. It comes from those developments made in that no man's land between post-rock, industrial rock and electronica. I would say this band belongs to where Tortoise also belongs, but it's not post-rock or math rock (but neither is Tortoise). For bands like these I wish we still had the old "Experimental / Post - Rock" sub-genre.

I'm volunteering for the bio if this is approved. Thumbs Up

I didn't want to download the album now since I have an old computer with a wee hard drive, but I am listening to myspace now:

http://www.myspace.com/discordless

Electronic, or Avant.

EDIT:Haven't listened again, but meant to mention yesterday: and it has similarities to ones in Krautrock too, such as Faust, methinks.

Thanks for supporting this submission, Greg. I was thinking you might enjoy that track with someone speaking japanese in the background (probably taken from an animation), but I don't think it's on their MySpace.

Thanks, Alex.  I like the music, and will definitely download that track (and the rest soon -- as I cleared up some old files on my 'puter I made some space).  Was going to listen to that one now, but I'm getting an internal server error from the asiilum.com site now for the download page.  Hearing Japanese, even in the background, is always a plus for me.  Every time I go to a Japanese restaurant I have to fight the urge not to try to converse in my broken Japanese (or throw out basic comments/ words in Japanese -- it embarrasses the wife, and ultimately me commonly).

That problem with the blog wasn't there when I started this thread. Anyway, the album can alternatively downloaded from here: http://www.archive.org/details/asiluum11

Thanks, yeah the page was available when I first checked it out, and is again.  Listening to the tracks from the album now, and hearing the album properly, and I agree that "For bands like these I wish we still had the old "Experimental / Post - Rock" sub-genre".

Yikes, ax B could really use some better production values, or maybe it's just Myspace's low quality streams.

Anyway, it sounds like prog to me, although I can't say I understand what the deal with Asiluum is.
if you own a sodastream i hate you

The very short story: behind all this is a very young guy, 20 or 21 I think, who produces other people's albums and releases them through his label (Asiluum, which is basically an internet blog). He also plays in several bands. Since he comes from industrial rock/metal, I wouldn't be surprised that sound quality thing was rather a low-fi poetic statement.

Thanks for the thumbs up Henry! What genre would you suggest?

i heard few tracks from  their myspace and i can say they don't fit in Post rock. they are experimental for sure and quite enjoyable though. But  they didn't sound prog to me..

Thanks for the interest Angel! When you have some time, can you download the album and give it a listen? I think it might give a different view of the whole than the MySpace samples. Also, can you please submit it for the Post-Rock team to vote? Thanks a lot Big smile

Just to shorten the pain, wouldn't it be easier if someone suggested it to Prog-Related? Tongue Seems like no genre is really a good place for this project (though it's agreed that they could be on PA).

Might be quicker ,but the quicker path is not always the better path. Let me have a listen and get back to you.

I listened to some of the songs on the Myspace (where I believe the entire new album is available to listen to, though possibly out of order) and I was going to say maybe Post rock.  Then I came to this thread and saw that the Post Rock team had already checked it out and said they don't fit there. Wacko  Way to shut me down. LOL

With that out of the way...I'm not sure, it's tricky.  I'd say maybe electronic, like the others are saying, but I'm really not sure.
