I've always thought they've had some prog leanings, due to their very skilled playing (esp. lead guitar and drums) which I think is best displayed by the song Ratcity In Blue, which I linked to below (live version).
 
That said, I'd say overall they're more of a straight-ahead rock band.

yesssss....!  this live version of Ratcity In Blue is really prog.
