Dickie Peterson, the bassist/vocalist and founding member of BLUE CHEER, passed away this morning (Monday, October 12) at 5 a.m. in Germany. He was 61 years old.

Although the cause of Peterson's death has not been released, he had reportedly been battling cancer for the past several months.

Thanks for the post.

Blue Cheer were not prog, but enjoyable anyways.

Vinibus Eruptum is a classic.

Blue Cheer founder , Dickie Peterson, was a member of the loudest blues-rock-psychcadelic band of their time. If that isn't being progressive, then what defines progressive? Isn't pioneering new styles and building from the normal/standard mode a progressive effort? Isn't being a non conformist/cookie-cutter   effort being progressive .....from what already is? These very reasons are why Blue Cheer are one of my favorite bands of all time. RIP Dickie Peterson...I hope your legacy is continued and Blue Cheer continue to blaze their style going forwardCool

No offence, but the same reason why Blue Cheer is not progressive is the same reason why Grand Master Flash is not considered progressive despite founding RAP music, or Bill Monroe is not considered progressive despite founding Bluegrass, etc.

Definately one of the founders of Heavy Metal, much like Hendrix and Cream in their use of power and heavy riffing.
