Topic: White Album Number Posted: September 10 2009 at 16:55 |
They are not exact There is no number on the White Album. They are fantastic and such an improvement on the original cd issues and the duplication appears correct down to the stereo or mono coding on the album covers. Imagine what numbers would be on the cover today,in the millions could be getting close to the debts our countries owe
For all us oldies when the album was first issued in 1968 they came with a number on the front mine was A 37800.
Anybody got an original with the number put it up and lets see any difference between countries

Mine's an unnumbered, embossed, French pressing, black vinyl, Apple label - 2 minutes research on the interweb says it was pressed in 1973 - which is about when I bought it. It's not even the white vinyl version
My 30th Anniversary CD is number 0042433

My LP is A 0514798.
My MFSL LP is unnumbered. On that OMR, the bass on Everybody's Got Something to Hide... is still capable of removing paint from walls.
I haven't gotten to the White Album yet on the new remasters. I don't know how it will fare against the OMR, which is one of the finest albums (pure soundwise) I've ever heard.

The original I got on Christmas in 1968 was numbered, but eventually ended up in a landfill. We didn't take too good care of our records as kids back then. Played the hell out of it though.

That's quite a landfill. It has many of my favorite LP's in there as well. For some reason, I always held on to the Bealtes albums, even as many others were cast away.

In 1968 i bought a mono vinyl copy of the White album on its day of release, its number was very low 000000.. something , i can't remember, but over the following months i carried it around to various parties/functions/school etc. , stuck the poster and photos on my bedroom wall and it became very dilapidated, then in 1970/1 i exchanged it for a stereo copy to play on my newly acquired stereo "system" and i still have it, will check the number when i get home, though now i wish i'd kept my original copy.......duhhh
...played the hell out of it though!

I bought a vinyl copy of the White Album in a second hand shop once. It was scratched to buggery but it had the original poster with it, which was the only reason I bought it. The annoying thing is, the cover opened at the top rather than the sides and apparently these versions are quite rare, and now I don't know what I did with it.
Doh again!

They'll probably call it "The Grubby Brown Album"

Yup - the orignal 1968 UK release opened at the top, not the sides - they replicated that on the 30th anniversary CD issue.

You know I haven't bought an LP in over 15 years, but putting them the trash was really unthinkable for me after having spent so many years collecting them. I am surprised to see the resurgence of interest in the format. Eventually I'll get my act together and sell the ones I've replaced with CDs and since so many people did throw away their LPs, I may even make more money off some of them than I paid for. I will be hanging on to the ones that are out of print or have really good cover art.

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

What was the deal with the white vinyl? I've never seen one of those, in fact I didn't even know about that little gimmick until just a few years ago. I don't think those were released in the US, or were they?

Thats a good copy on that link My album I pinned the photos to my bedroom wall with the poster next to them. I don't have them anymore just the album with the 2 records which are worn out The number is faded as well and not that easy to read anymore. My copy is the Cream Album nowadays
The number 1 in Australia went to one of our most famous music gurus Molly Meldrum.

I'll try and ask my Dad to find out what his number is. He bought the day it came out.
