Obiymy Doschu - Elehia (2009) 01. Pid Hmaramy 02. Mertve Derevo I Viter 03. Zorenko Moya 04. Yiyi Dushi Zivyali Kvity 05. Zhasayucha Osin 06. Zymova Elehia 07. Samotni Nochi 08. Dorohoyu Vichnosti http://rain.in.ua/en.html Obiymy Doschu (eng. Rains Embrace) is a band from Kiev, Ukraine that plays very lyrical, autumnal rock music with progressive rock, doom metal, neoclassical and neofolk influences. Their debut album was just released on their official website as a free download. The album "Elehia" is a result of the band's activities from its formation in 2004. The band members have finally managed to realize all their ideas for written songs and make the album as one, united personal story. The album also has a promo video with album fragments for a quick listen. P.S. We will be really grateful for reviews and any feedback in general. Thanks a lot! Only gave it the one listen, but already I have some thoughts:
- love the overall sound, some very good guitar work, both electric and acoustic, tasteful use of orchestral backing, great instrumental passages; bit of metal, but nothing to extreme. Not really that original (overall it reminds of bands like Anathema, Antimatter or Katatonia), but then again originality doesn't necessarily translate into quality;
- can't really say I enjoy the male vocals, kinda of ruin the fun for me - would have loved to hear more from the female support vocalist;
- my other complaint is that it all seems to sound alike and a bit predictable, but as long as the music is good, that's not so much a problem.

Kotro, thank you very much for the feedback!
It's true that this music was a bit influenced by bands like Anathema, Antimatter, Katatonia. P.S. I wonder why the post was moved out of Progressive forum into "Other music". :) It would be really interesting to know what qualities the music lacks to be considered progressive rock (I don't mind, it's just for the knowledge). |

What about the meaning of the lyrics? I couldn't find any English translation on your official website...

We didn't do the english translation yet, but you can get at least a remote idea of the lyric theme by using Google Translate: http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=uk&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Frain.in.ua%2Flyrics

A translation of the first song lyrics:
Under Clouds I walk under clouds Which cry like an offended child Touchingly and strongly Some time we dreamed About common hapiness and eternal feelings So confidently and freely Heavenly tears Wash the earth with the breath of spring - It became used to it Our love may have been flourishing among warm dreams... But, like a dream, it disappeared |

A translation of the seventh song lyrics:
Lonely Nights I remember the warm night, - So well like if it was yesterday, - Holding your shoulders, I saw a blue sea in your eyes - The moon was playing with its shining In a water so limpid and clean, And the stars became clearer Under waves' lullaby I don't want nothing more, I don't need nothing more Than looking into the dearest eyes And see the endless sky On spring and summer days, In autumn and winter Holding the dearest hands, Feeling warmth and support I whisper to you quietly With a rustle of light morning I tickle you gently With a warm rain at the dawn Looking in your eyes with the sky I just want to say That your lonely nights Will drain your soul to the dregs |

Guys, I really need to know your opinion - can this album be considered progressive rock? And why or why not? If it can, then what sub-genre? Is it worth submitting to the database?
Thanks in advance for any answer. |
