So when I saw DT last night, Jordan Rudess had a laptop based device which appeared to me to be the same thing the guy from Muse has implanted on his guitar. It's not-tonal but still a cool device. Rudess was also playing a device with all red keys that I assumed was chromatic but seemed to be non-chromatic, i.e. direct tonal.

The guy from Bigelf played something that appeared like a Theremin with a harmonizer. Any observations or thou;ghts?

Just looking for others who've observed with a skeptikal eye.

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

Would these groups be the 'actual musicians' you mentioned speaking to in the APC thread? Wink

I have more respect for Rudess now, seeing him play both tonal and non-tonal instruments.

I wasn't cutting them down, I was genuinely curious as to who you specifically spoke to. You were pretty vague, after all.

I actually don't know what the hardware is called, but I've seen Youtube of the guy from Muse using a square piece of input hardware that is a continuous pitch input interface, implanted on his guitar. Last night, Rudess used the exact same piece of equiptment on top his Korg synth, and I was just curious what others knew about what that device was. Rudess also had a keyboard device with all keys straight with now black vs white key demarcation, which also seemed to have some non, chromatic options......

Okay. I'll just leave the thread to it's initial topic, then.

The implant in Matt Bellamy's guitar is a Kaoss Pad (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaoss_Pad)

... looking down the artist list on that Wiki page shows Jordon Rudess uses one too Big smile

i think the thing with 'red keys' the OP was talking about was the continuum, which IS a tonal instrument, in fact you can use it to hit notes between the notes (microtones???) not that ive played one. i dont have over 3000 bucks to spare...

i noticed Rudess when i went to ProgNation in Long Island, was he was using an iPhone for the keyboard solo during A Rite Of Passage. pretty nifty!
