I have been on this site for a fair while now and i have not noticed any advertising.  However, i know that there are several administrators/collaborators, etc. who are probably recieving some kind of compensation for their services.  Any ideas?

The collaborators recieve no compensation for our services whatsoever.  And you evidently haven't been looking hard enough, because the site pays for its hosting costs through ads.

That poutine thing should stuff those North Koreans famined bellies all right!

Actually there is plenty of advertising around with all the links at the top of the pages , the buying links , This Muse records and the Roger Dean associations! They might have also have members who are sugar daddies!

But this is a very good point/topic, that I meant to discuss once (probably I would have opened that  thread in the Collaborator's zone , though )

They probably also get some help from records label, since this site helps out discovery of new groups and boosts sales and they are fully aware of this! It would be great if M@X could enlighten us!

Peter:

You forgot our biggest source of revenue - selling all of the members' names to any and all interested parties, including pharmaceutical companies (all that viagra spam you get), insurance companies, and the U.S. and other governments...

Actually, mwb, as Useful Idiot and others point out, revenue is generated primarily by advertising.  However, no one - not even Rony, Max or myself - earns anything from the site; we all have "real" jobs that pay our rents, etc.  And although the site may generate a tiny little bit of profit (which is actually unlikely), it is really just self-sustaining - and a true labor of love.

Peace.

Another thing I believe true for all sites is that, the more a site is frequented, the more traffic and bytes of data flow in and out of the site, the more a site "earns" and the more advertisers will have to pay to have their links on the site!

BTW, I never once thought that the three of you were getting rich of this except in fulfilling your passions!

Well I'm off fulfilling my passions in the Ardennes with a trunkful of wine bottles and prog CDs and some of the most babelicious women I know.

Read you on May 17!

This page is a bit of an eye opener.  I know I'm new here, and am probably doing the rose tinted thing at the moment, but I have to say, this is a fabulous facility, extremely professionally put together, and tonnes of thanks should be winging its way to Maani, Max, Rony and the other organisers for the time they put into this labour of love.  Well done guys; you have my vote!!

Agreed. This is easily my favorite website on the net, and my homepage, and I don't see it changing anytime soon.

I see ads on here sometimes, but at least the ads aren't aggressive.

BTW, did I mention the gun-running?Ermm

No? How about the nudie (Garten is ghastly in garters!Dead) prog cult (featuring the Max@ and Ron Dream Retirement Savings Plan) hidden deep beneath the New Mexico sands in an abandoned, supposedly deactivated missile silo?

Shocked (It seems that el CertoNuke is working on removing prong mental from the face of the planet!)  Clap

My life has changed completetly since becoming a 'collaborator'

I'm on a salary of $500,000 a year and have a yacht and holiday home in Miami. Every weekend I'm allowed unfettered access to Rick Wakemens glittery robe collection, and usually after Sunday lunch Phil Collins lets me punch him in the face twice.

Thankyou progarchives..

Sh!t, sorry Maani, was my 'special arrangement' supposed to be a secret?? ...

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!
