Alright ... all my previous attempts at promoting this amazing music game have failed ... so I'll try to continuosly try to post some high scores of mine in this thread and see how it goes. Hopefully some of you will go along.

For those of you who don't know Audio-Surf ... check it out here:

http://www.audio-surf.com

I'll start it off: My username in the game is MikeEnRegalia. I recently got the global high score for Genesis - Cinema Show, but was recently dethroned. In that event the server sends you an email to notify you, and included is a link to the current high scores for the track:

http://www.audio-surf.com/gamesite_fetchscoresAlertEmailsOnly.php?songid=296759&league=2&aname=genesis&sname=the+cinema+show

I'll try to retake the throne of course ... and I welcome you to have a go at it too!Big smile

So ... let the games begin. Tell us your user name, and the songs that you recently got the global top position for. Big smile

EDIT: I mentioned some tracks in the other posts - but so that you don't have to browse all the threads, here's a list, with the current (Elite) champion:

  • Genesis - The Cinema Show: TheivingTaffer (whoever that is)
  • Pink Floyd - Time: MikeEnRegalia
  • Enslaved - Path to Vanir: MikeEnRegalia
  • Yes - Sound Chaser: MikeEnRegalia
I'll be adding more tracks soon ...Big smile

^ yes ... I guess that about half of the recent entries in my last.fm profile are from Audio-Surf.

My tips for those of you who are new to the game:

- Turn the sound effects off in the options. IMO they only distract from the music.
- Even as a beginner, don't bother with the beginner characters. My recommendation: Elite Mono. With the mono character all you need to do is to dodge grey cars and collect colored cars. It's a very musical/rhythmical mode ... you won't get great scores, but you can get used to the game and have some great fun (I started that way, too)
- Once you're comfortable with Mono mode, try the other ones. Especially Eraser is relatively easy ... but all of the modes except for Mono require a decent amount of strategy, which can be really confusing at first, given the game's pace.
- If the Elite characters are too fast for you ... try some more relaxed music instead of switching to easier characters. It also pays to choose the right character depending on the music. Here's my general rule of thumb:

Fast track with a lot going on: Eraser, Pusher
Slow track, very sparse: Pointman, Pusher

Pointman in particular requires a lot of micro management and things to take into consideration ... on tracks with a traffic rating of  more than 200 you can easily get confused. Eraser is the best choice for high traffic tracks ... if at any point you get confused, you can always use the erase function to quickly clear the board. With the other characters (except for Mono of course) once your board is filled with garbage you'll have a hard time getting rid of it, especially near the end.

I actually have this game. And I love it. It is what made me quit playing guitar hero (well, until I discovered frets on fire). And I shall be playing it a lot more, now that my musical collection has thoroughly increased.

This game absolutely rocks. Clap

I used to only play Pointman; now I'm starting to branch off into other characters.

Going to Mono is much more relaxing, haha. It's kinda nice.

^ I think those are the two extremes. I'm very comfortable playing Pusher today ... you can get good scores, but you can also enjoy the music. Will take a few more tries until I beat that TheivingTaffer guy though ...

I was trying this game out again yesterday on my freshly brainwashed laptop (the hard drive had to be replaced, poor thing) and the news that it's now last.fm compatible has made me decide that I really will get the full version this time!

Mike, I really like the idea of a little PA audiosurf tournament but can we use a track other than Genesis? I really can't get into that band no matter how hard I try... How about something like Close to the Edge?

^ Surfing long tracks like CttE is a real challenge ... maybe I'll do that tomorrow. But I currently have the Elite high score for Sound Chaser, by all means have a try.Big smile

BTW: Feel free to suggest any other track that you enjoyed surfing ... that's the point of this thread. Of course it would be boring if it was all about Cinema Show ... Embarrassed

And for those of you who dig Metal: I've also just become King of Enslaved - Path to Vanir ...

! I doubt I'd be able to dent your score on that for some time yet! I'm only just getting to grips with mono pro...  All my attempts with other characters have so far left me with truly pitiful scores. My username on audiosurf's The Hemulen, by the way, just so you know who to mock. Tongue

So far I've really enjoyed playing lots of Captain Beefheart tracks. It can be a bumpy ride but that's part of the fun!

I never tried Beefheart! How's Trout Mask Replica?

I tried Theusz Hamtaahk with the demo... 20 minutes of surfing is gruelling!

I also played an Elton Dean jazz track and there was one crazy part in it where I was going downhill and could barely manoeuvre properly, due to speed.

I added you as a friend. You can add me too if you like ... it's under Online Scores -> Friend Scores -> Add a Friend.Smile

I'll be surfing some Avant-Garde stuff later on ... don't have any Captain Beefheart available right now, but how about some Henry Cow? I recently got Leg End from eMusic.

BTW: I recommend you stick with Ninja Mono for the time being ... and if you feel confident you can try Eraser. The points you can score with Ninja mode are somewhat limited, but I still use it from time to time since it's really fun.

Even though I've yet to buy the full version, I'm TheGeck0 on there.

Now I have Steam, I'll see about getting the full version soon.

There are quite a few hilarious tracks ... for example, try surfing Pink Floyd - Money with Ninja Mono. Good luck with the constant accelerating and breaking ... Big smile
