Which you favourite version?

I really enjoyed Stephen King's Shining, but for me I think the film is better by an inch which is unusual for me as books vs film adaptations are usually a no brainier for me.What Kubrick left out and added was some really genius touches, such as leaving out the hedge animals and the boiler explosion and adding displaced chairs from scene to scene to give the atmosphere the hotels alive and generally making the film his own adaptation (even to the disprovel of King.)

It's very rare that a film is better than the book, imo, but Kubricks Shining is on a par with Kings novel.

Both absolutely sh!t over Kings TV mini series, which bordered on comedy. King actually didn't like Kubricks film at all, because it strayed too far from his original story.

I can't really vote on this because I never read the book. I read Carrie which was ok, but King never really did anything for me. I only went to see The Shining for it's 2 stars, Jack and Stanley. I love Stan the Man!

Ironically, the only other book of King's I've read is Different Seasons which had the novellas Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption and The Body (Stand By Me). Both that were adapted to great films. Although Apt Pupil was terribly adapted.

Haven't read the book and never will. Much like with 2001 A Space Odyssey I don't want the added details of the book to interfere with the movie.

The book is decent, but nowhere near as impressive as the film. The same goes for 2001 A Space Odyssey.
