The Big Idea was my first one. I have Up From the Dark and Spin also, but didn't like those as much. Putting the new one on must get list.

Has anyone heard the new Stewart Gaskin album? Not that I doubt the quality, but kind of broke right now, and just wondered what others were thinking of the music.
thanks, tom |

I've only had it for a couple of weeks now. I also have their other three albums as well. I like it. Probably their best to date. Notable for only have one cover song this time around.

You're right, Stewart/Gaskin should be included on Prog Archives, as they are, as a group, quite progressive - and in many different ways. AND, their individual contributions in other projects is substantial.
But, thank goodness we have such a wonderful site as Prog Archives!!! |

Only my opinion, but maybe providing samples and formally suggesting a band for inclusion is more productive than bitching about their absence. |

WOW!! One comment of disappointment with "Prog Archives"'s inclusiveness and all of a sudden I'm "Bitching", Leaving out Gaskin and Stewart is an error and I pointed it out. I don't have the technology to send you samples. So I guess the problem will be unresolved. Sorry if my comment offended anyone's feelings. I will get over it.

Just to set the record strait. I love prog archives. I make use of it everyday. It is my most visited site on the web. The fact that there are some glaring omissions, does not change this. I can not prove Stewart and Gaskin are progressive as I don't have the technology to provide samples. Perhaps another follower of the band could do this as I am sure the people in charge will agree once they have the required proof. Maybe this little 'fuss' will make a difference. Oh and can someone put in a word for "Jakko" too, as "The Bruised Romantic Glee Club" is another album that IMHO should be included in the Prog Archive. Anyone else agree? (oh and TOTO too). Sorry no samples to provide of these either. Just MHO.

My point is that we have an entire subsection of the forum called "Suggest New Bands and Artists". Starting a thread there will get someone to seriously evaluate Stewart/Gaskin (most likely I will be one of those people), and perhaps there's a chance they could be in the archives, and eliminate your disappointment. Although I can't guarantee their inclusion - don't they themselves describe their music as "pop music for grown-ups"? Try to find a myspace or other page that has some samples of their work. If we can't hear the music, it can't be evaluated. |

Good thing someone realised Jakko has been included for at least THREE MONTHS... It took me a whole day to get his bio ready, and not a single soul commented when I added him.

I am getting a lot or resistance from the powers that be at PA to allow Stewart and Gaskin in to the archive. This seems to be based mainly on the sin of having a few pop singles in the 80s (notably Its My Party) and the worlds on their web site "Pop Music For Adults" (If you think about it, that's what a lot of Progressive Rock is (eg 80's Genesis). I did not realise that I could EMail whole Mp3s at the time, but now realise that my computer has the capacity to do so. I am forwarding "New Jerusalem" as an example of this incredible music, to anyone I think can appreciate it on the Archive. I hope they have an open mind.

Yea, I realize that S & G has some pop music - but so did the Beatles, and they're about as progressive as you can get for their era. But, I do understand that you can't "open the door" for just anyone - Foreigner - Journey, etc...come to mind.
New Jerusalem is the perfect song to send. Best of luck, and long live Prog Archives!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I do hope we draw the line at Foreigner and Journey's only here because of their early stuff.

Well I just received the latest Gaskin and Stewart Album "Green and Blue" The track listing is Jupiter Rising 6.42 Walnut Tree Walk 6.34 Let Me Sleep Tonight 4.40 Good Morning, Good Morning 4.32 Green & Blue 10.34 Any Guru 8.52 Bed Of Leaves 7.39 Rat Circus 7.36 The Sweet**ter Sea 9.01 Shakin' Al Over (bonus disc) 6.34 This Wind Blows Everywhere (bonus disc) 7.02 Telstar (bonus disc) 3.51 Henry and James (bonus disc) 4.21 I think you will agree that this certainly does not look like a 'Pop' album. I know track length does not guarantee 'progressive music', so I will be happy to attach any tracks that would help any interested special collaborator or reviewer to decide. Hopefully you will have a change of heat and start to lobby for their inclusion. Love to know your opinion, anyway. Maybe Prog Related is their genre, but I'll leave that up to you guys at Progarchives. Thanks for giving this your attention. |
