Les Claypool's album "Of Fungi and Foe" is his latest album of all original music. This album is a collection of songs inspired by the projects he has been working on over the past few years, and also contains a jam session with Eugene Hütz the charismatic front-man of the band Gogol Bordello that turned into the track "Bite Out Of Life". Other musicians who appear on the cd include Lapland Miclovik, Mike Dillon, Sam Bass, Paulo Baldi, Cage Claypool, and Bryonn Bain. "Sometime back I was commissioned to write soundtrack music for two projects that promised to have quite a bit of very intense and unique imagery. One was for an interactive game about a meteor that hits Earth and brings intelligence to the mushrooms within the crash proximity and the other was about a three thousand pound wild boar that terrorizes the marijuana fields of Northern California. Obviously the makers of the subsequent MUSHROOM MEN game and PIG HUNT film were very aware of my tastes and perspectives because the music oozed from me in such a natural way that I believe it came as much from my pores as it did my mind. This music became the foundation of the songs that fill this collection. With a few added tidbits and a bit of gypsy sauce, I inflict upon you... There is worse. One site for a well known shred guitarist, wouldn't accept my name Dick Heath. So I concluded: if you are not prepared to accept some well thought out intellectual essay because of childish censorship of a certain word, then to quote Anthony Quinn (dressed as Moses) go forth and multiply (aka f*** you).

OK I could take this discussion into a whole twisted area talking about dicks and heads, but I'm not going to go there.
![]() Anyway, the new Claypool is on my list of must gets for 2009. He kind of fills in the void for me that Zappa left... Edited by Slartibartfast - February 05 2009 at 06:30 |

Should add Amazon.UK are currently offering a pre-release (and discouraging) price of over 17quid! But I guess as with my recent purchases of UG's Mantis and the latest Derek Trucks Band albums, Amazon's price is likely to drop post-release - in both instances pre- and post -releases prices differed by 10quid.

Off topic, but how is Derek Trucks these days? I saw him perform live when he was very young but haven't kept up with him. I believe he was the opening act for an Aquarium Rescue Unit concert I was at. Mantis has really knocked my socks off. By the way, fans of Zappa and Claypool might want to check out this guy: http://www.colbruce.com/ http://www.colbruce.com/Discog.htm Edited by Slartibartfast - February 06 2009 at 07:08 |

Thanks for the link ProgShine. I'd like to catch the Oddity Faire tour he's headlining this spring.
I hope he returns to Primus at some point as well. |

The new one is good, but the last couple of albums also included world music - strong African Malian, eastern influences - but not obvious here, so I guess plain but good electric blues. I've been sampled with Aquarium Rescue Unit tracks, but yet to see the album(s) offered at a sensible price over here. In comparison Gov't Mule albums(and esp. DVDs) seem cheap. |
