Ok, the basic idea here is to identify the greatest Zappa album from each decade then to take the winners and pit them against each other in a final mind boggling, mustache twirling battle royal.  Each poll will include both studio and live releases and there will be five polls: "the 60s", "the 70s", "the 80s", "the 90s (including posthumous)", and "the 2000s (all posthumous)".  Any excuse for more Zappa in the forums, I say! Hot Rats took "the 60s"  while "the 70s" went to the One Size Fits All by a slim two vote margin over some fierce competitors and this week judgement will be passed on "the 80s".  Once again, you will be granted a weeks worth of seconds, minutes, hours, and days to decide.
 
Results:
"the 60s": Hot Rats (1969)
"the 70s": One Size Fits All (1975)

Well, I think I know which one will win. And I would love to give a vote to YCDTOSA Vol 2, but alas, I must vote for Ship Arriving Too Late To Save A Drowning Which.

As usual, it's difficult to pick just one.  However, FZ was not necessarily consistent in the '80s, to these ears.  In the end I went for You Are What You Is, which has non-stop great songs:
 
Harder Than Your Husband
Doreen
Goblin Girl
etc.

Make A Jazz Noise doesnt count? i know it was released in 90 or 91 i think, but it showcases the 88 band, IMO, his best overall band

gotta be Tinsel Town Rebellion fer me.... was 18 , in a used Lp store a friends friend owned ... i had previously only heard Hot Rats and Roxy and loved 'em ... friends friend locks the door puts FZ's TTR on , sparks one and asks , or rather tells me, i'm about to be blow away .... i was. still am.

YAWYI is also a great intro to conceptual FZ. ...and the 1988 band kicked ... and then theres Guitar and and and ...
i vote them al in!~

this may be of slight interest to one or two iof ya :
i teach guitar fer a living and have managed to stay away from making folks play House Of The Rising Sone ETC .. due to Monk , FZ, and Crimson! Really!
FZ's Sleep Dirt (da tune) is a great begginers finger-picking piece and my mid-leval chord-freaks get a LOT from Zoot Allures (da tune, again) and the "lead" Watermelon In Easter Hay is great for teaching a "new" twist on modal playing (IE: playing the Major of each degree ofr a chord , instead of the actual mode IE": WWWHWWH to WHWWWW and such)  as Frank loved to move  semi-pentatonic "boxes" through 'basic' (ie: I IV miii miv V ..etc)

ViVa! FZ! ...

Tinseltown Rebellion was going to get my vote and i find it to be Zappa's most 'entertaining' album, but i went with SATLTSADW because the title track is oh too good
