So I've decided to take up spanish again and just to get a feel for the language I need someone with a fairly decent knowledge about spanish music to give me some pointers as to what songs and artists that might interest an amateur minstrel like myself. Wether it's european spanish och latin spanish doesn't matter. Is there any spanish-speaking equivalence to Dylan or Cornelis Vreeswijk?
You could also suggest some generally well thought of prog-, rock- or ska-bands that executes the language with a natural effort. Many thanks in advance! Edited by Xanadu - December 12 2008 at 18:03 |

As far as I can tell Violeta Parra and Victor Jara are true legends in Chile - both as singers-songwriters and great human beings.
Excellent Chilean band LOS JAIVAS http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=1014 has two albums based on the poetry of Pablo Neruda and Violeta Parra respectively. ![]() ![]() There is an interesting thread dedicated to Spanish prog: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=41724&KW= Because most of us are not Spanish-speakers, music is the main topic. But if you'll find something interesting it is not a big problem to check music (and of course lyrics) on YouTube or somewhere else. Edited by NotAProghead - December 12 2008 at 18:55 |

You could always listen to the awesome power of Camaron de la Isla. Great flamenco and plenty of words to hear. |

If you like big, old-fashioned voices, you can't got wrong by looking into Mercedes Sosa's repertoire.
