Topic: Name That Movie Quote! Posted: December 02 2008 at 17:27 |
OK folks, new game goming on here. Here's the scoop...I'm going to take x amount of movies and take one quote from each of them and post it here, your job is to try and get the name of the movies from the quotes. I will try and do different themes based on the time of year, (i.e. summer movies, holiday movies, romance movies on Valentine's Day, etc.) but to start off I think it's only appropriate that I'll give quotes from 10 of my favorite movies off the top of my head. Have fun with it, let's see if all the people that know their music know their movies as well!
Some of my favorites (movies)
#1 - I've often seen these people, these squares at the table, short stack and long odds against them. All their outs gone. One last card in the deck that can help them. I used to wonder how they could let themselves get into such bad shape, and how the hell they thought they could turn it around.
#2 - Every night it's the f**king chicken! Holy God Almighty! Is it possible just once we could get something to eat for dinner around here that's not the goddamned f**king chicken?
#3 - You think that I won't? You're wrong, mister. I mean if you think you can just... just take that... that truck of yours and use it as a murder weapon and uh... killin' people on the highway... you're wrong! You got another thing comin'!
#4 - The winner ain't the one with the fastest car, son. It's just the one who refuses to lose.
#5 - When I was in China on the All-American Ping Pong team, I just loved playing ping-pong with my Flexolite ping pong paddle.
#6 - If only it was the picture who was to grow old, and I remain young. There's nothing in the world I wouldn't give for that. Yes, I would give even my soul for it.
#7 - I had sponsors in the stands, we were hugging and holding hands, praying for good showing and what do we do? We end up looking like a monkey f**king a football out there. Everybody out, please, except you two.
#8 - Your partner got killed. You lost your job. You went to jail. Your girlfriend walked. You got a job as a security guard at a hundred and eighty-two dollars a week. You know what you are, Hank? You're a black man.
#9 - Pompey, go find Doc Willoughby. If he's sober, bring him back.
#10 - OK... First I'll access the secret military spy satelite that is in geosynchronous orbit over the midwest. Then I'll ID the limo by the vanity plate "MR. BIGGG" and get his approximate position. Then I'll reposition the transmission dish on the remote truck to 17.32 degrees east, hit WESTAR 4 over the Atlantic, bounce the signal back into the aerosphere up to COMSAT 6, beam it back to SATCOM 2 transmitter number 137 and down on the dish on the back of Mr. Big's limo... It's almost too easy.
OK so some are easy, some are pretty darn hard. Hints will follow if I see some struggling

OK here is round two, I've steppe it up a teeny bit, so they may be challenging (if you aren't Epignosis ).
Once again the category is just some more of my favorites. Have at it!
#1 - This world is an uncertain realm, filled with danger. Honor underminded by the pursuit of power, freedom sacrificed when the weak are oppressed by the strong. But there are those who oppose these powerful forces, who dedicate their lives to truth, honor, and freedom
#2 - A beekeeper who has lost his voice, a cook who thinks he's a gardener, and a witness to a murder. Oh, yes. It is obvious to my trained eye, that there is much more going on here than meets the ear.
#3 - Perhaps it isn't I who's growing, but it's everyone who's shrinking!
#4 - In case you haven't guessed yet, there's been a lot of drug traffic on the beach. And I'm not talking about Robitussin and No-Doze. I'm talking about the hard stuff, and a lot of it. I've been trying to find out who's behind it. It hasn't been easy. I don't shower much.
#5 - A strange twilight world opened up before me, and I felt as the first man to set foot on another planet, an intruder in this mystic garden of the deep.
#6 - 2,000 and my advice is to take it. What will you do when you're hungry? Eat the piano?
#7 - Because of just one, plain, simple rule: Love thy neighbor. And in this world today, full of hatred, a man who knows that one rule has a great trust. You know that rule, Mr. Paine, and I loved you for it, just as my father did. And you know that you fight for the lost causes harder than for any others. Yes, you even die for them, like a man we both knew, Mr. Paine.
#8 - I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?
#9 - If you hold back anything, I'll kill ya. If you bend the truth or I think your bending the truth, I'll kill ya. If you forget anything I'll kill ya. In fact, you're gonna have to work very hard to stay alive, Nick. Now do you understand everything I've said? Because if you don't, I'll kill ya.
#10 - And of course, with the birth of the artist came the inevitable afterbirth... the critic

I think there might be one or two in there that could stump you, I went deep into my movie list for a few of these. I'm still impressed that you got 3, I don't know of many people who have seen that one. Damn good movie too.

I take that back, I can always count on Epginosis for the answer
Here's an idea, I was thinking of making a points system to A) keep track of how everyone is doing and how behind they are, and B) give more insentive to play. Seems like more people play when there are points involved, no?
Anyways, a new one will be up soon.
Points would look like:
Epignosis: 11
jimidom: 9

New set, just some more favorites:
#1 - Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It's not just in some of us; it is in everyone.
#2 - Ever since a trip I made to Africa. I'd have got a swell picture of a charging rhino, but the cameraman got scared. The darn fool, I was right there with a rifle! Seems he didn't trust me to get the rhino before it got him. I haven't fooled with a cameraman since; I do it myself.
#3 - An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind.
#4 - Hu-mans, listen to me. Due to an error in calculation, there are still a few of you left.
#5 - If there's something wrong, those who have the ability to take action have the responsibility to take action.
#6 - It just so happens we be Texicans. Texican is nothin' but a human man way out on a limb, this year and next. Maybe for a hundred more. But I don't think it'll be forever. Some day, this country's gonna be a fine, good place to be. Maybe it needs our bones in the ground before that time can come
#7 - Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another in my life! Because I lie and sign myself to lies! Because I am not worth the dust on the feet of them that hang! How may I live without my name? I have given you my soul; leave me my name!
#8 - We're always quickest to doubt people who have a reputation for being honest.
#9 - But they showed no corrections of any kind. Not one. He had simply written down music already finished in his head. Page after page of it as if he were just taking dictation. And music, finished as no music is ever finished. Displace one note and there would be diminishment. Displace one phrase and the structure would fall.
#10 - I saw your face. It was the face of a depraved, murderous beast. Only two things ever meant anything to you: power and cruelty. You can't feel pity. You can't even feel guilt. You knew they were innocent, but you were crazy to see them hanged. And to make me watch it. I could've stopped you with a gun, just as any other animal can be stopped. But I couldn't do it because I'm a coward. Aren't you glad you made me go? Weren't you proud of me? How does it feel to have begot a weakling, Major? Does it make you afraid there may be some weakness in you, too? That other men might discover and whisper about? Open the door! I want to see your face. I want to know how you feel now!
There it is, the hardest lot so far, some rarities in there.
Now the challenge begins

Now the challenge begins | Okay, I'm not so sure I'm going to get all these, but I'll try.
1. I've heard this quote in several movies...I think most recently in Coach Carter (???).
2. King Kong
3. I'm going to guess here and say Ghandi
4. You've stumped me! (Great quote, by the way)
5. National Treasure (I think)
6. I seem to recall this one from being from a John Wayne movie. The Searchers, maybe? (I'm cloudy on my Westerns)
7. Arthur Miller's best work.
8. Hitchcock's most famous work. ( again)
9. Amadeus
10. Stumped me again...but it sounds like another Western.

Listening to Cheepnis inspired me to watch some truly terrible monster movies, I was about to quote 'Missile To The Moon' but I kept thinking about the part where they drop the spider from the top of the cave and all the support wires get caught up in the abdomen
