Topic: Otep Posted: October 19 2008 at 23:35 |
I have been checking out some Otep vids on YouTube, and they look interesting. I have gotten away from that nu-metal sound, but still like Korn from now and then. These guys (and girl) definately fit into the nu-metal genre, but thier musicianship seems a bit better than average, and I have always found female heavy metal vocalists oddly alluring. Anyways, what do you guys think? I'm hesitant to plunk down cash for an CD, and I don't download music from obscurer bands anymore, either.

I don't care, bash the band all you want, I don't want to buy something I'm not gonna like. I don't find the lyrics a bit cliched.

But, just to clarify, did you find the video funny just because you disagree with it politically, or do you dislike it musically? I kind of like the song.

Not your average female fronted band. I own some Otep "Jihad," "Sevas Tra," and "House of Secrets." I listened to Sevas Tra quite a bit when I first got it ... but lost interest pretty quickly. Think I spun "House of Secrets" the day I purchased it, but haven't listened to it since.

Only heard a few bits from them. The whole cookie monster-ette thing is a little freaky.
Is there something to Sevas Tra being Art Saves in reverse? Kind of like "Yvan eht nioj"

Yeah, she was abused as a child, and being a singer (lyrics as poetry, art) helps her deal with her past...

it kind of felt a tad forced to me if you like the song then that's great and you should try to find more stuff by them to see if you'd like them or not I'm not good at recommendations but hey if you like something, you like something

In few words: I would not recommend Otep in any way...

Lol, thanks for the replies. And yes, I would have to agree thier political message is a little less than subtle. Probably won't get one of thier CDs. . . way too much other music out there I want to get to first.
