Great sound - the one thing that stood out from the mix is that it's rather toppy - I know everything needs to cut through, but I find some of the high freqs a little painful. I think this applies to each instrument as well as the mix as a whole - in the ensembles, there seems to be too many audible clicks from the bass drum and bass guitar.
Just realised I was listening to The Beginning...
Moving onto Momentum.
Wow, it's like going into cotton wool after The Beginning!
This track initially seems to have less focus than the first one I heard, in terms of the songwriting, appearing to hang around more narrow centres, and having a less original feel.
I think some of the lessons on top in the mix have been learned - but maybe taken a little too far this time (I know from experience that it's really hard to get the balance, I'm just saying what I hear, not making an attempt to be the pot calling the kettle black!).
I think that the guitars need a tad more brightness - especially for the melodic lines, and the keyboard needs a bit more presence. The harmonising melody line is up too high - it's accompanying, not trying to drown the lead line!
The overall sound of this is rather boxy... I preferred the over-bright sound of The Beginning to this.
Inertia has a brighter sound - it's like you picked up on everything I just said...
I'd still like the keys to have a bit more presence. When they come together with the guitars, it's a really good spongy texture that I crave more of.
Glad to hear that someone else apart from me has direct Nigel Tufnell influences in their soloing
Talking of soloing, while the bass is impressive, my preference would be for it to solo like a bass rather than a lead... all the other instrumentalists inject the character of their instruments into their playing, but the bass player sounds like a frustrated lead guitarist (sorry Mr Bass Player!)
Not really my sort of thing - after a while it feels like I'm listening to the same track over and over, but with different mixing and arrangements - but great execution, and generally very clean production and some great heavy sounds. Reminds me of the first Watchtower album in many ways
Listened to a snippet of Gravity - this is my favourite of all 4, as it has more of the keyboards, and the overall sounds and arrangements appear to have more character - lots of neat surprises in the music that stop it sounding like a carbon copy of the other 3 tracks. This could be a different band.
Keep it up - more like Gravity, please!
