can you suggest me some compact pedals (possibly BOSS such as OS2 or BD 2 or others)?

i usually play rock blues (cream, b.b. king, rolling stones ,who..ecc...) and i have an epiphone les paul and a 25 watt peavey..(but when i play with the band a mnarshall 80 watt, so the ampli doesn't mind)

This one is a bit confusing, as you haven't told us whether you want to just boost the pre amp gain of the distortion/overdrive of your amps, or use the clean channels to run the distortion/overdrive pedal through.

I own a Boss DS-1, which I use a pre amp booster for guitar amps. It can thicken the tone and add some very noticeable compression, and generally can sound a bit mushy on the low end of things, but for soloing it can add that much needed thickness I desire.

The SD-1, will actually cut bass out of your signal path when used as a pre amp boost, so it tightens the sound up for heavy rhythm playing, but perhaps doesn't sound as nice for soloing.

Of course, Boss currently have 13 overdrive/distortion pedals available, but those 2 are well known for their use as good pre amp boosts. Also, the Metal Zone is very popular as well, and can also be used as an effective tone tightener/pre amp boost, and it's useful for many genres and despite it's name is not just useful for metal per se.

If you plan to use the pedals through the clean channels, honestly they will most likely sound like rubbish when used through cheap solid state amps, but perhaps you can try out the Robert Keely mods, to see if that helps.

i would not use it with the clean channel but for solos and just to have a nice overdrive and a nice light distortion effect.

the distortion that i have now with my peavey is very low and i don't have a preamp..that's the reason why i want to buy a pedal.

...robert keeley is fantastic..thank you for the suggestion

Would you believe I talked to a guy the other day who was sold an OD pedal (Boss I think, not sure which) by the store that sold him a medium priced Marshall solid state amp. At the same time. So he ended up being able get the same distortion through the amp's gain channel or through the clean channel with the OD pedal.
I could get into the set-up they did to his Washburn Scott Ian signature model guitar. O.K. I will.
Seems when they were using the string winder, they effectively wore away the headstock's veneer where the tuning heads for the A & D strings are. Then to fix it, just slapped some shellac/paint over it. Then let it dry vertically. Then the extra shellac /paint dripped down the neck. Then, when he complained, asking for his money back ( as each S Ian model has a different paint design), was told by the manager that that was asking a bit too much. After all, he had returned that OD pedal earlier for no reason ???
