So as you may know, I've been into some really experimental right now, and this stuff has been influencing my guitar playing quite a bit. But there are two styles of playing that I have heard but have no idea how to play or even where to start.
1) Toby Driver and Astral projection- On both they're Last FM and Wiki page, MotW and Kayo Dot are said to use the technique of Astral projection, especially in Kayo Dot. Toby Driver is said to start this style of playing through his college music professor. I have no idea of what it is, or what art of the Kayo Dot sound it is, but whatever it is, works and I really want to tap into the type of musical philosophy on my guitar.
2) Cult of Luna and the blending of light and dark- This technique is even on they're bio here on the PA, but what do they mean. Everyone knows CoL uses some funky downstroke chords in they're songs to get that atmospheric metal edge, but what are they doing. Is one guitar playing a minor chord, while the other plays a major? Are he chords dissonant? I know they have three guitarists, so maybe that has to with the chords being a little more... different than the standard power chord.
Anyways, I know, pretty specific stuff, but if any of you can enlighten me on these techniques, or possible tell me what they're doing, I would be much obliged!
