I'm looking to learn about some unfamiliar bands.  Hopefully, this is a thread that can keep on giving.  I have listed 25 additional bands whose names are at least somewhat food-related.  This is the second of two threads that I created regarding this theme.  Most sub-genres are covered so there is a little something for everyone to talk about.  Most of these bands are rarely discussed within the general threads and rarely show up in polls, but hopefully somebody out there knows things about these bands that they would like to share.  Multiple votes are allowed, so feel free to talk about as many bands that you are familiar with.  I hope that you all have a hardy appetitie for some (mostly) lesser known prog bands.
 
Thanks and hopefully have fun and learn something new along with me.

SOme of these I've been meaning to check out.  I know Nektar, Olive Mess, Rational Diet, The Strawbs, Tangerine Dream (less of Secret Oyster, Tartar Lamb).  Of those, I think I like Rational Diet the most.  I don't have much to say of interest about the band (the reviews are excellent) and I only have the latest album.  It ended up being my top pick of 2007 (though I do listen to Wyatt's Comicopera more).

As I supected I would, I did a search on Rational Diet and found a thread from Avestin which brings them to everyone's attention.  If there is anybody on this site that has heard everything listed on PA, you might expect the 3 guys who reviewed this band to be amongst them.

These threads got pushed to the second page way too quickly.  Come on folks there are a lot of obscure bands on these threads that can be discussed.  Certainly there are more of you out there with knowledge on some of these bands.  Besides it took a lot of work for me to go through the archives to come up with the list, I can't let these threads go to that dark and dreary graveyard of threads that quickly. Wink

Ok, the Strawbs are luscious just like the fruit, Grave New World, Hero & Heroine , Ghosts are a trio of fab albums. As the say in Wimbledon, all that's missing is the cream.

I am familiar with Hero and Heroine, and From the Witchwood.  Being a Yes fan, I have always been curious about the Strawbs because of the Rick Wakeman factor.  How are their 1st two albums with Rick Wakeman, The Strawbs and Dragonfly?  Are they visions of things to come for Wakeman?

From what I know on this one, Tuna Laguna, a little too stereotypical post rock, but they're brand of Mogwai-esque straight forward P rock is always good.

Tuna Laguna were a little snoozy for me, like you said waaayyy too cut and dry post-rock-by-the-book. However, the album is free so it automatically makes it worthwhile to check it outLOL

Strangely, there are only glimpses of the caped one's future brilliance , as the early Strawbs albums were deeply rooted in british folk , very acoustic and Rick was really only a session/side man whose duty was to decorate the proceedings . John Hawken (of Renaissance and Illusion) was the main instigator of a more symphonic sound , especially Hero and Ghosts which is why they are still much revered today . You should get "Ghosts" though, it will please you for sure.
