I saw Steve play during the Defector tour at the Roxy Theater in LA.  At the end of the show, he brought his guitar up to his mouth and did a "Hendrix".  Suddenly he looked shocked and blood was pouring out of his mouth as all of us in the crowd sat stunned. He then smiled very wide and we all realized he had played a joke on us.
I'm wondering if any of you witnessed him do this at any show.  Seems so out of character for him which is off course why he caught all of us off guard.
BTW - the mouth solo was awesome!

I've only seen Steve live in person once, the Cured tour.  He was fairly tame.  Also doesn't do anything really crazy in the many live concert DVDs he's put out.

Were there any other witnesses? Tongue
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

I'm hoping there are witnesses in PA as I've long lost touch with the friend I went to the concert with. After all it was over 25 years ago. We'll see.

Well a day went by and no response from all you out there.  I swear on a copy of "The Lamb" that this is true.  I may need to go to Steve's website and email him if I can.

This sounds most unusual for Steve. But I do believe it nevertheless. He always likes to entertain and surprise people. This was probably one of those moments.

Nice to hear this story. :)

I emailed Steve on his website, it says that he reads all the mail but can't respond to it all.  I'm hoping this is one of those rare times that he does.  If so I'll post his reply here.

Well, I remember that Steve once said in an interview , concerning his band GTR, that a difference between Steve Howe and himself was that Howe was a vegetarian and he himself was a meat eater. He then used the example that he used to have miniature bottles of fake blood with him, which he used during the show. He eventually stopped with it because the roadies got sick of it everytime they saw it.

^  sounds about right, still way out of character for steve so I understand some will be skeptical (sp).  No response from steve after 5 days, he's probably busy.
