I apologize if this band has already been suggested but Gates of Light is a progressive rock band from San Francisco.  They were being advertised on the PA home page, so I checked out their MySpace page, where incidentally, ProgArchives was listed as a sponsored link.  My initial thought is that they are a fit for Heavy Prog, but please give them a listen and see what you think.  They list Marillion, Rush, Genesis, and Pink Floyd as influences amongst others.  Here is a link to their MySpace page.

I just ran across their advertisement again, and it mentioned that they were Neo-prog, so if Heavy Prog doesn't work that might be the next place.

Gates of Light are definitely not Neo to my ears, and after carefully listening to the cuts I can't honestly say they are progressive.. regrettably I think I'll pass, but thanks again Scott, as always

Thanks for listening to them David.  As you can tell from my posts I am not too familiar with this band.  My figuring was they were labeled as prog, and their MySpace page said that they are in the finals of a contest in the progressive category, so I figured I would bring them to someone's attention.

P.S. Somebody has to talk to Max about having non-prog bands advertised on the front page of Prog Archives as prog bands. Wink

I'm the founder of Gates of Light.  This link was recently brought to my attention.

I appreciate your consideration for inclusion in your archives.  I'm a huge fan of Prog Archives!

My roots musically are entirely progressive in nature.  I grew up listening to Marillion, Yes, Rush, Genesis (with and without Gabriel), Kate Bush, etc.

While my band has many influences, we consider ourselves primarily a progressive rock band.  We perform under this banner, and perform with other progressive rock acts in the Bay Area.

Sorry if our advertisements on this site are misleading regarding the nature of Gates of Light or our music.  If you prefer, I will try to have any advertising campaigns related to Prog Archives stopped at once.

Best Regards,

Mike Welch
