Q: How Many Neil Peart's does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
A: Two. One to screw in the lightbulb, and one to say "I could do that in 15/8 time while turning the whole endevour into an Ayn Rand allusion"

Q: Why did Neil Peart cross the road?
A: To assert his freewill

Jon Anderson, Christian Vander, Frank Zappa and Neil Peart are in a hot-air balloon. Suddenly, and without explanation, the balloon starts to descend rapidly. It becomes apparent that they must drop some weight, and quickly, or the balloon will crash. They drop everything they can, to no avail. Heroically, Jon Anderson says "Wallowing in the mists of illusion, grasping yon for a glimpse of immortality, harrowing featherweight sparrow spirals glistening, and the river of Krishna smiles sadly" and hurls himself out of the balloon. For a time, this helps, and the balloon starts to gain altitude. But without warning, it once again begins plunging towards Earth. Bravely, Christian Vander says "Dreiak sun wurdah" and throws himself out of the balloon. Once again the balloon regains altitude-for a time. A while later, the same potentially deadly crisis occurs. But Frank Zappa is quick to act. Stating without equivocation "It's been good to know ya" he tosses Neil Peart out of the balloon.

Q: Why does Neil Peart a) go to such extreme lengths to build such extensive scaffolding for his kit and to collect the drums of every culture, tuned and untuned alike, b) spend long nights penning reflections on popular libertarian literature and philosophy and c) compose elaborate, perfectionist drum solospots rather than letting the spirit of the moment capture his imagination?
A: It distracts fans from how much Rush suck. ;P

Actually, as I found out last night while watching "Anatomy of a Drum Solo", he improvises the "waltz" portion of each drum solo. His drums solos are very structured, but this middle part is his "play time" for drumming discovery.

By the way, I highly recommend every drummer to watch this DVD. I think you'd be surprised at what he actually does. I know I was. He maintains drum god status. The speed of his cross-overs was amazing.
