Hey I was just thinking about Crosby Stills Nash and Yound that great trio and quartet of folk rock.

Don't they deserve a place here in PA in prog related?

It's great music, don't get me wrong. Deja Vu saw #6 on my all time favorite albums list. But seriously, CSNY are to prog what The Three Tenors are to hip-hop. It's just not happenin'.

or pick up the greatest hits album hahahhah.. has like the entire first two albums on it.  I think most here HAVE heard those albums... they are like a fundamental group to know and listen to.  That said... we all see prog as we see it... however you will be in minority unless you can make a case for HOW they were related. I sure as hell don't see it myself.. and I LOVE that group.

I've certainly never heard CS&N or CSN&Y referred to as prog.

well it's pretty clear they did progress Folk Rock, but so did many artists at that time..  I'd say No for now

..and, in the context of their careers, they aren't really related to Prog

it's a long process that requires much discussion and showing of evidence that an artist is in fact ProgRelated..  and still many (members and Collabs) disagree when a band is accepted or rejected

the question here is, do CS&N fit the ProgRelated parameters..  from the definition :

Prog Related is the category that groups bands and artists that:

- Without being 100% Prog, received clear MUSICAL influence of this genre, OR

- Are widely accepted as MUSICALLY influential to the development of Progressive Rock by the community, OR

- Blend characteristics of Progressive Rock with mainstream elements creating a final product that despite not being part of the genre is evident that are close to Prog.

All suggestions for inclusion should be placed in the Suggest New Bands/Artists section.

nope.  One of my absolute favorite bands (and their solo stuff too) but there is no way they belong here, even with other questionable groups.  They didn't pass the 5-minute mark too often and most of their output is in folk/pop territory.  However, they did have a considerable influence on some prog bands (discussed in the recent CSN thread) and I'd say they recorded several prog/related songs, notably Suite Judy Blue Eyes, Carry On, Country Girl, and Deja Vu.

cacho - probably some one should give you the straight poop on Prog Related additions. This is not official... but just gleaned from watching and listening. Technically... by  the criteria David posted about... a GREAT many groups could be added to prog-related.  Prog, Art Rock, whatever you want to call it left a mammoth imprint on 70's rock music.  A great many bands were influence by prog in various degrees.

From what I have seen about Prog-Related.. it has NEVER been meant to be all-encompassing or to have every band that was prog-related.  Let's face it.. this site would look less a prog site then a 70's rock site when Heart reviews.. or Steely Dan... or Elton John reviews and discussions popped up all over the place.  Prog-related was meant to have a place where targeted groups could be added.  Why specifically targeted groups.  I'm sure that bringing new people in who are doing google searches for their favorite groups is one part. Also important are to have those bands whose fans would take to prog. To perpetuate the species we must procreate in a way hahhaha.    Just as important though is to have related  groups that our prog fans might naturally take to .....  just like Blue Oyster Cult.   The additions are targeted for this site... it is a prog site... we strive to have completeness in our prog addtions.. but for the time to debate and add every group that might have been influenced by prog.. or related to prog... christ... we'd never get anything done.

So I typed all that to explain this.... I don't see any  way in hell CSNY get in here.  They may or they may not have been related. What is related anyway but what you want to make of it.  Simply though .... they don't fit the site.. and  the groups addition doesn't benefit the site.

My two 'unofficial' cents.  Just based on observing and listening.
