Under Various Artists http://www.progarchives.com/subgenre.asp?style=29

Yngve Guddal and Roger T. Matte's two Genesis covers albums are listed in a category all of their own rather than in one of the three existing Various Artists categories. I understand that these albums are interpretations rather than tributes, but so are the "orchestral" versions of Floyd, Yes, Queen, APP, and Genesis.

Also isn't the naming Guddal (Yngve) and Matte (Roger T.) counter to the PA convention?
What?

Well, that's indeed strange. Maybe we should ask The Symphonic Team as they are credited for the artist addition.

Already replied to this in the Symphonic Thread, so I will copy iy again:

It's a tribute, not original material, there's a section for tributes, if not:

  1. The River of Constant Change (A Tribute to Genesis) http://www.progarchives.com/Review.asp?id=35114
  2. The Fox Lies Down (A Tribute to Genesis) http://www.progarchives.com/Review.asp?id=38878
  3. Envcores Legends & Paradox (A Tribute to ELP) http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=7780
  4. Tales from Yesterdays (A Tribute to Yes) http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=10584

There are several tributes by The London Symphony Orchestra to Pink Floyd, Queen, etc, but all are in Tributes.

Would be in Symphonic, but they don't belong here because there's an specific section for them and that is where all the Tributes are, Symphonic is for original versions, not for albums specificcally done as tributes.

Also it's important to mention that Guddal and Matte's work IS NOT SYMPHONIC OR PROG AT ALL.

They made a Neo Classical approach to Genesis music, it's here only because by the reference to Genesis, but I'm sure that if their work was the original, they wouldn't even be in Prog Archives.

The problem of moving them is that an artistic page was created (IMO a mistake) so theire individual albums couldn't be added as usual, but they are where they belong, it's a tribute, call it an interpretation or whatever but it's a tribute

Thanks

Iván

Sorry, I wasn't implying that G&M should be in Symph, just questioning why they weren't correctly listed in VA: Tributes.

The Easy Star All Stars are also artists who are not Prog but have two covers albums listed in VA: Tributes, they do not have a artist page of their own.

We should be consistant and put Guddal & Matte's two albums into VA: Tributes, or create seperate artist pages for the RPO and the Easy Stars etc...

The problem Dean is that Tributes has only room for albums, as it was a band with it's own albums.

Somebody added G&M as a band when as a fact it isn't, it's just a join venture for a series of Genesis Tribute albums.

We also asked them to be moved to Tributes, but as far as I know they couldn't be added without deleting the complete page and loosing the reviews or the bios.

I believe Tony made the change (not sure though) into the section that was póssible then, maybe with the new format they can be added to Tribute where G&M belong as you well point, but I'm not an expert in those business.

Cheers

Iván

Thanks Iván, if they can't be corrected without losing the reviews then there's little we can do about it.

We can always ask the reviewers to resubmit their reviews. There are only two of them there (apart from sole ratings).
