Two discs with the same measures!
 
But differents: One music+ image; one only music...
 
 
I prefer DVD!

CD. The quality on the DVD can be worse at times.

When you live in a country like Perú that the great artists rarely visit, the DVD is one of the few opportunities you have to see Prog icons, so I go with DVD.

CD, I like the whole headphone experience. The image of a band performing live isn't as good as the visuals I get from music and it sometimes distracts from the music too. It's still cool to see a band live and everything, but way more often I'd put on a CD than a DVD for music.

Yeah, but what do you care more about, the "prog icon" or the music he makes? I would think the studio albums from the musician would be better more often than footage of a live concert.

Prog is a complicated genre of music and to drive with everything what it behaves often it doesn't reconcile the to include the touches of the Prog.  Therefore...  Also to me pleases to listen to healthy Prog when I drive...  But I don't come excited so!

Other advantage of the DVD:  Certainties songs are better with the images that without the images (see the Atomic Rooster, for great example)!

Of course I have the studio albums of the bands i like, but lately i'm buying a lot of DVD's to have the experience of a concert I have never seen.

I like both but I preffer to listen to music at home as a studio format rather than a live performance so CD for me. But then I guess I would preffer to watch the DVD of a Live performance over the same performance on CD as a live album.

Can't say I have really given DVD a second thought. I rarely buy film DVDs (never bought a pre-recorded video) as I'd rather be doing something else whilst listening to music or in complete darkness if I really want to concentrate on the music. CDs are much more versatile but then that's probably because I haven't given DVD a chance. I'd have to get a decent player first though. The only one I have is a cheapo one with limited facilities which I bought to play special edition DVDs accompanying CDs

I find it hard to sit and watch people play music (including being at live concerts). I generally like to relax and close my eyes while listening (rarely happens) or being occupied with something with prog music in the background (happens most often. I'm telling you, I do really well when playing Call of Duty 2 online with King Crimson's Absent Lovers in the background. Big%20smile

I have at least a couple of DVDs that came with an audio CD version. Tongue
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

CD unfortunately during the great prog inspiration period (60s-70s)  many bands never produced film and those that did didnt do a great job of it worthy of being great on DVD anyway.

You'd be surprised at some of the '70's stuff coming out on DVD that's good.  Bill Bruford Band live in '79 for instance.  Holy cow!

PoS's BE live had one. it's different from the studio album as they re-recorded some or all parts.

CD - I listen to my fave CDs over and over.  That rarely happens with DVDs, and when it does it is usually a TV comdey series like Absolutely Fabulous.
