Topic: Best modern prog band? Posted: March 17 2005 at 23:47 |
Just for the record, I define "modern" as "formed in the late 80s onwards". And I chose to not include any prog metal.

I voted Anglagard. Though 11 years since their last album wouldn't quite be my definition of modern.

There's a lot of good stuff in this poll... I'll go for The Mars Volta for right now (my opinion will probably change) for their recent progressive effort (very good).

Spock's Beard, followed by Discipline, Flower Kings, Echolyn, Transatlantic, Porcupine Tree, Änglagård, Anekdoten...
Other favourites (not listed) The Tangent, Iona, After Crying, Glass Hammer, Pär Lindh Project, Finneus Gauge, Parallel Or 90 Degrees, Karda Estra...
I have to listen to Paatos.

01. Iona, Dave Bainbridge (solo)
02: Chroma Key, Porcupine Tree, Spock's Beard, The Flower Kings
03: Magenta, Anglagard and Glass Hammer (Lex Rex / Shadowlands - phase) seem to be interesting too.

It's a tie between The Flower Kings and Transatlantic for me but I went with TFK since they had no votes.
A nod and a wink to Änglagård as well. I love "Hybris", can't stand "Epilog"...go figure... |

Of the options avaliable I had to choose the Flower Kings. If Arena were one of the choices I would have gone with them.

I'm with Jethro Fish on this one: can't really choose between Transatlantic and Flower Kings. So just to equilibrate things I voted for Transatlantic.
But I almost voted for Anekdoten, just because I don't like to see them with zero votes...

GYBE got my vote out of that lot, but my favourite at the moment by a huge margin is Guapo.

GYBE, I mean, they're too melancholic to be called experimental. They express feelings that conemporary instrumental/experimental music can't.
Mars Volta are almost as god, but I spent $60 to get "Lift Your Skinny Fists..." from the US, so you coluyd say i sufferded enough for them to be called a huge fan

NONE of them, they are all ridiculous...the future of prog music is not in the so-called neo prog!
