does no one think that Kings X deserve to be on prog archives?
besides the the obvious point of their space like music, and great ability to create good atmospheric rock, they are mentioned in the web site! but not in it!
this is an extract from prog archives explanation of progressive metal
'Progressive metal can be broken down into countless sub-genres corresponding to certain other styles of music that have influenced progressive metal groups. For example, two bands that are commonly identified as progressive metal, King's X and Opeth, are at opposite ends of the sonic spectrum to one another'
does no one find that odd?even though it does go on to say knigs x were responsoble for the grunge invention, I still think they have some prog elements, and should atleasst be 'crossover prog' or 'prog related'

Hi yoel? King's X have been brought up for inclusion. Please see the attached link. According to Ghost Rider they will be added to Prog-Related at some point when a Special Collaborator has a chance to add them.

I re-read the thread and I guess at this point they haven't decided to add them to Prog Related, but that is where Ghost Rider thinks that they will eventually be added. Personally, I think that they belong in Prog Metal, but she says that that team has already rejected them. It is good to see another King's X fan on the site.

I always found it very odd, and have noted it before: how can you list King's X as an example of prog-metal when they are nowhere to be found in the archives. I suggested that they should either be added to that category, or the paragraph you quoted should be changed to not mention them. If they are indeed going to be in prog-related, the paragraph should still be changed. N.B. I for one am happy to see them here, if they eventually do make it. I've been a fan of theirs for many years, though I haven't kept up with their work for a while now.

I remember walking into a little pub here in Houston called Blythe Spirits one night. It was a small room, and there weren't very many people in the crowd, but the trio onstage rocked! I didn't stay long because it was a weeknight, but their melodic sound and their look (i.e. Doug Pinnick's mohawk) stayed with me. I had no idea who they were at the time, but I later found out that they were King's X. They signed to Megaforce not too long afterward, and the rest is history. I would love to see them added to PA.

That's a pretty cool story. I've been a fan since 1989 when I first heard "Over My Head". Somehow I've managed to never see them live however. I always seem to find out that they're coming to Detroit too late to make plans, or after they have already been here..
What are your thoughts on the Galactic Cowboys? I always consider the two bands together because of their connections in the early years. I think that the Galactic Cowboys might qualify as Prog Metal as well, but I suppose that they may be more generic metal than King's X. In King's X early albums they thank the Galactic Cowboys and Watchtower. I could never find anything from Watchtower until I came to PA and found references to them here. Come to find out the singer (or at least one of the singers) was the guy from Dangerous Toys.

They aren't on the prog-metal chart but I greatly support their inclusion... As I can't find them on any chart, I'll add them to the prog metal chart, at least to have a voting....

The Galactic Cowboys, who were also from Houston, were part of producer Sam Taylor's stable of bands along with King's X and Atomic Opera, and they all shared Taylor's "Katy sound" (heavy & melodic with spiritual lyrics). As for Watchtower, who were from Austin, they pretty much set the prog metal standard here in Texas back in the 80's.

if youve not seen them live and want to, theyve just finished recording a new album,amd are most likely going to do a tour after its release, ill be there. And yeah they definitely needed to be added soon, I dont know anyone on the site whose against their inclusion

I haven't seen them live in person. One time though, they did a live show from Atlanta that was simulcast from Atlanta so I was able to hear them live and I spent some time on the message board talking to fellow King's X fans. And I do have their live album. Obviously, both are not the same as seeing them live. Looking forward to the new album, and I will definitely have to keep my ear to the ground so I can hear when they are coming to town next.

Sorry for not answering sooner, but as you mentioned me a couple of times, I thought it was my duty to show up at some point.  As I said on other occasions, King's X are on the list of bands to be discussed. However, the Master List is just an indication of all the acts that have been suggested by members in the past, and unfortunately additions don't always happen as fast as we would all wish (we do have a life outside PA, strange as it may seem  ...). I don't think they'll be added to Prog-Metal, but, besides Prog-Related, there is another possibility: submitting them to the attention of the Crossover Prog Team. As the band have a strong Beatles influence besides the obvious hard rock and metal elements, they could pass muster with that team and be finally inducted into PA.

Just listened through King's X "Faith Hope Love" the other day; and I was struck with the similarities (at least in mood) to the stuff I've heard from Spock's Beard and Neal Morse.
Some rather complex stuff on that album as well, when u listen closely to it.
