StarshipTrooper - here are the bands i recommend: Eggroll - At the moment the most famous prog band in Israel. Doing covers for all the great old bands: Genesis, King Crimson, Camel, Jethro Tull etc. And they are the best in this area imo. Also have thair own material ("Out Of the Dark"). I do love them very much (and not only cause i work with them... hehe ) Sympozion - Eclectic blend of modern forms of music like: minimalism, free classical composition, computer games, musical implications of mathematical structures, formulated jazz and even some good old prog. Fantastic ensemble! They are such a wonderful musicians, and great composers. (and i don't say it only cause my boyfriend is in the band... hehe&2 ) Right on Time - Prog, Fusion, Jazz... Never mind the sound of the place they are playing at, it would always sound grrreat! They are so proffesional. Know exactly what they are doing... Achvak - Lately had realeased their first album... Achvak doing mainly RIO... Very complexed music... Many having difficalties listening to it, but you are welcome to try. Trespass - Symphonic Rock. They are the most known Israeli Prog band abroad with their "In haze of Time" album. They sound very much like ELP, and all the ELP fans would love them verrrry much.. Well those are the top bands... when you done exploring them, you can move on to other links i have there... Sussita (singing in Hebrew, with the influence of the Israeli music (folk?) ). Sanhedrin... I can go on and on and list here all the bands i have on my page So i'll stop now!!! Hammar - Good to hear you were looking for a site, and good i made one in english thinking of all of you people who don't really know hebrew... What bands you have been recommended about?

JUST ONE QUESTION JESTER:,you have album covers of bands such as Gentle Giant and Marrillion in the background on your site, would it not be better to have the album covers of Isreali bands instead, in keeping with the theme i personally would really like to see that!! By the way i am in the process of listening to some tracks now,i will let you know my opinion a bit later!!

Well actually it's a good idea, but the israeli album covers are not that special imo. They won't look good in the background. But i can add a section where i'll put the covers, and if availabe, where to buy it, and maybe reviews! I will wait to hear your opinion :) |

I've been recommended five bands, three of which are on your list. Unfortunately, it is the two others I'm most interested in. On your list I found Zingale, Atmosphera and Danny Ben-Israel, but I couldn't find Ktchat Aret and Sheshet. The latter's selftitled album from 1977 (re-published in 1994) is from what I have heard just marvellous. Maybe you know something more about it?

Sheshet is an israeli super-group of very fine musicians that later became the core of israeli mainstream (much like yes and genesis in the rest of the world). Their album is a culmination of great talent, inspiration and luck. Great compositions, influenced mainly by Gentle Giant, Canterbury and Chick Corea, performed with lots of grace and feeling. Really great stuff. Listen to "Inbalim" : http://stevehegede.tripod.com/sheshet.ram Buy it here : https://www.jazzis.com/shop/shop_frames.asp It's filed under Progressive Rock, in the letter "S" Ktzat Aheret (a.k.a No-Names) is a trio with a more avant-garde edge. They share the same flutist as Sheshet (Shem-Tov Levy). The compositions are more abstract and "out there", not as optimistic but still have lots of humor. Less lyrics than sheshet, with a more "dirty" approach to arrangement. Also - really great :-) Listen to "The Echo" : http://stevehegede.tripod.com/nonames.ram Buy it here : https://www.jazzis.com/shop/shop_frames.asp It's filed under Progressive Rock, in the letter "N" for "No-Names"
I personally recommend you to listen to all the new prog bands which I listed above. They are as exciting as the good old bands, if not more IMO. |
