Finally I can create this special.
I collected the listening impressions of 17 Italian live albums (other will follow) and, since they compelled my body to a difficult delivery, I wanted to collect the reviews in a special.
It is only a small contribution to the knowledge of the Italian Prog. Nevertheless I hope please yourselves.
And now... The reviews:
The RPI (and related) live reviews series vol.1
The first Italian live album recoded in other country "Live In USA" (AKA "Cook") is a great classic. If the sound is poor the music is gold music. 6 song plus 2 interludes. Only "Dove... Quando" is in Italian. But all the songs represents the high pick of Italian Prog. Because in 1974 the Italian Prog is one of the more considerated Prog style in the World. Speaking in musical field all the songs and interludes are extreme good with high power and technique. In this Sense I think that this live is on of the firsts five Prog albums. The stage service is improve from this poor mixage since the magic of the concert is all here. The best song are, clear, "Celebration" because have more power that the original Italian version and because "Funiculì Funicolà" is great ghost interlude. But Franz Di Cioccio is possessed and does singer the drums. Also the keyboards of Premoli are good and other winning element of this live. And for me the best Italian live is born.

Good only because except for Tiranti this the line up of the new New Trolls (plus Nico Di Palo). But only for this is a good live album. Where is the Prog? Nevertheless the music quality is very high. But isn't Prog. The Prog of New Trolls. "Una Miniera", "Irish" (original title: "signore, Io Sono Irish)", "Ti Ricordi Joe", "Davanti Agli Occhi Miei", "Il Treno" and "Aldebaran" are good and beautiful songs. But Beat or POP. If this is the story of New Trolls... The Prog period don't exist!

Andrea Parodi (R.I.P.), leader of Sardinian group Tazenda, was one of the best Italian voice. Al Di Meola is an Italian origin USA Jazz guitarist. In 2004 this two men plays in a beautiful concert ("Rocce Rosse & Blues" to Santa Maria Navarrese, Sardinia) and in 2005 finally this CD is in shop. The music is a great Sardinian Folk (very Spanish style) and the guitar of Al Di Meola returns to the roots. This is also a great World Music album. To listen this album means to dream a world without barriers, boundaries and wars. The best song of this album is (and isn't a simple case) "No Potho Reposare" ("I Cannot Rest", in English) a sweet Folk Ballad that speaks of to creation of a better world. Like Andrea Parodi and Al Di Meola with this CD want to contribute to create. Grat song is also the ethno Jazz of "Umbras" wrote by Andrea Parodi, because is 100% pure Jazz but with Sardinian echoes and wind. "Creation" is a song by Al Di Meola (with the help in written by Roberto Dani and Gavino Murgia). In this song the guitar of Al speak a great verb... Because Al Di Meola is a guitar poet but in this case... Very good is also the Sardinian version of "The Sound Of Silence" ("Deo Ti Gheria Maria"), sung (like all the album, except "La Maza" in Spanish, "A Foua" in Savonish dialect [because Andrea was 50% Savonish] and "Creation" that is instrumental) in Sardinian language. I am sincere: This album kidnap the soul and heart. And in my opinion is a great album of World Music, Folk and Jazz.

This album from 1975 (and unpublished for 30 years) is a document. A document of Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso at his summit of celebrity. The Classic Music in Rock (because this is the music of Banco) is this in great manner. Grat the English version of "R.I.P.", "L'Albero Del Pane", La Danza Dei Grandi Rettili" and "Passaggio" but "Non Mi Rompete" is a great discover with the following "Dopo... Niente è Più Lo Stesso". "Traccia II" is also good but the long version of "Metamorfosi" is, if possible, a great conclusion. Unluckly Di Giacomo is a great voice... But it puts sadness when it thanks the public and announces the songs. But for me is only a note in margin of a perfect live. In fact the keyboards duo is the winning element. Also is Di Giacomo remains with his voice over category. Great album for a great band.

The first live of Franco Battiato is focused in 80's Avantgarde POP. This music isn't Prog. But not a simple POP. In this sense I think ht the Battiato's success with this music isn't expressed in relation to the music since it be it's difficult to assimilate. In my opinion Battiato conceives a very Prog POP that is good for a great conoisseur of a fine music but that is too difficult for a simply listener. Is it for this reason that wrote a Classical Music albums? Is it for this reason that conceived an album like "Il Vuoto"? In the 80's Battiato plays a song that play easy but that easy are not. Because "Voglio Vederti Danzare" isn't a simple song... To play and to listen to. And because... "Giubbe Rosse", "Lettera al Governatore Della Libia", "Oceano Di Silenzio", "Sequenze E Frequenze", "Summer On A Solitary Beach" or "E Ti Vengo A Cercare" are simple POP song. The lyrics are very hard to undrestand because too squanders from a simple POP songs. For me "Giubbe Rosse" is a great live, Prog or not Prog.

I have a LP version that my mother bought in 1980. This is the first Banco's live album and is a good live. Yes, is a Funky Jazzy POP album. But this is a problem? For me no. Because the songs are extreme good. "Canto Di Primavera", "R.I.P.", "Il Ragno", "Garofano Rosso" and "Non Mi Rompete" are good songs, also in this version. Di Giacomo is great, Banco is great. Also in this POp version that transform the Prog song is simple POP song. But true Banco is Banco... And in POP version isn't bad. This live is a reasonable and moderately good album.
The RPI (and related) live reviews series vol.7
The sound is very poor bcause this live is from 1974, recorded in 1974 with tape machine. For these reason only the aficionados of Live album or Biglietto Per L'Inferno's aficionados will adore this album. That is also extreme good. 40 mins of a great suite. "Il Tempo Della Semina" are from the second (and also in recent years published) album. The rest of this suite are from the first album. This album is extreme good for a fans of Symphonic Heavy Prog. And also for RPI fans. Because Biglietto Per L'Inferno is a great RPI band.
The RPI (and related) live reviews series vol.8 Extreme good live, recorded in 1977 (if not remember badly). In this live the Jazz Rock of Venegoni & Co. are all in its fashion and feelings. Aren't because the songs are simply but extreme good that in my opinion this is a good live. But because this live is a great party. From musicians to public. I don't have particular love song but in my opinion the two "Mezzogiorno", the three "Sarabanda" and Coesione" have a high glamour. In this sense the songs succeed to be very positive. I don't think that Venegoni & Co. are fundamentals. But this live yes.
The RPI (and related) live reviews series vol.9 Recorded in 1968 this live is good for sound and atmospheres. But in my opinion this live is good in Beat field, in Italian Beat field. Because is totally failed in Prog Fields. Nevertheless is a great sensation listen to I Gigant because all members are in possession of extreme good voice. And thanks to Vincenzo Dentico and Maria Chiaravalle this live is in my hands. All songs are good and involvings proper because I Giganti voices are extreme good. In a certain sense one masterpiece.
The RPI (and related) live reviews series vol.10 Not exactly Prog album. But if is your problem the 80's music of PFM isn't your music. For me is good music because the power of PMF is exactly all in this album. I have the doubt that in 80's another musical road for PFm and othe Dinosaurs Prog giants was good. And in fact the PFM remain the group more convincing with its 80's songs. Because it is true is great POP. This live present one band at the maximum level of power. But this live don't have the power of "Live in USA" or the two chapter with Fabrizio De André. Not for this songs like "Maestro Della Voce", "Quartiere Otto", "Suonare Suonare", "Si Può Fare" or "Come Ti Va" aren't good. And the Prog is present in "Violino Performance", "Il Banchetto" and "Celebration". Yes, this is only a typical 80's live album from a 70's band. But extremely good.
The RPI (and related) live reviews series vol.11 Not a PFM's album. This is a Fabrizio De André album (see this site: www.viadelcampo.com). Is a big surprise that this album (and "Vol. 2") is on ProgArchives. If this is the sentence more correctly the music where is it? Well, Folk or Folk Rock. This album is conceived like a simple live album with the songs more famous but POP of Fabrizio De André. My mother says me that Fabrizio isn't a POP artist and in PA can be included without clashes. In my opinion the presence of PFM is fundamental for the great final result. And in this sense the songs are more Rock than Folk. But Fabrizio left spacious space to the band (maybe too) and so songs like "Bocca Di Rosa" or "La Canzone Di Marinella" are 100% De André but songs like "Zirichiltaggia" or "Volta La Carta" are 100% PFM. That this remain a great live is obvious. But the final result isn't a masterpiece result.
The RPI (and related) live reviews series vol.12 "Vol. 2": with the success of "Vol.1" is simply a gift for Fabrizio De André and PFM's fans. "Vol. 2" is totally a De André album, because these songs are little contributions of PFM. So this album is more emotional. But the final result isn't superior to "Vol. 1" result. "Avventura A Durango", "Sally", "Rimini", "Via Del Campo"," Maria Nella Bottega Del Falegname" and "Il Testamento Di Tito" are great songs, Folk songs. But the best song is "Verranno A Chiederti Del Nostro Amore" because is the more exciting song of this selection. This is a totally Fabrizio De André album. But if you don't know Fabrizio De André remain a simply Italian live album. Vice Versa is a good masterpiece.
The RPI (and related) live reviews series vol.13 The Italian founding band Area in 1975 produced Are(A)zione, one of the more important live albums from Italy. That this band is a Communist band is clear. But if you don't have problems with the political influence and inclinations in musical field Area is a fundamental band. So this live is a great document. The music is a collection of great songs. "Luglio, Agosto, Settembre (Nero)" is a good start for all live album because is a song that has in possess of a energy... Form atomic Bomb! "La Mela Di Odessa" isn't totally good because more long and boring. But in musically field "La Mela Di Odessa" is one of the all time Prog song. "Cometa Rossa" and "Are(A)zione" confirm that the power of Area is, besides the political message, the power of the songs. In conclusion the Communist hymn "L'Internazionale" that in musically field is a very great song. One of the more important live album is here. Thanks Area.
The RPI (and related) live reviews series vol.14 The years passing by. The Leslie is only a sound effect in a horgan sound on a synth keyboard. But the Delirium are back in the street! Today the Prog is on the mouth of a lot persons. This would be able to be a well. For me yes, because I discovered many interesting bands. For atists no, because the old album are, for many reasons, more good that the contemporary albums. It want that the Delirium escape at this sentence? No, it is impossible. Because all the true artists change their approach towards the art. In this sense Le Orme, in musical field, is a great example. I Delirium isn't a delirum band but over 40 years of music in the vein of musicians aren't passed in vain. In my opinion this live confirm that today the new Italian Prog has to a lot to the Delirium. All the songs represent one moment of Delirium thought. But, correctly for me, is good to mote that the passion is unchanged. That is Jazz Rock, Folk Prog or simply POP Delirium is a great band with great song, attitude and pinched passion. This live is a testament of Italian Prog. But because is, in every case, a document with extreme good music the years of the Prog Dinosaurs are here.
The RPI (and related) live reviews series vol.15 Today I decided to produce a review for this live album. That for sure is good. This is the first Italian POP live album, born with a difficult delivery. "In Concerto" is conceived like a double album and in hands of fans is a simple single album. The songs are all torrid but the two "Truck Of Fire" are extreme good! This because the Michi Dei Rossi drums solo is extreme torrid. "Sguardo Verso Il Cielo", "Preludio A Era Inverno", "Era Inverno", "Ritorno Al Nulla" and "Collage" are the other songs of this album. Fundamental for the Italian scene and that are impossible to describe. Because the emotions are very personal and because for you would be able to be a normal album. But not if seen in historical point of view.
The RPI (and related) live reviews series vol.16 In my opinion if "Stati Di Immaginazione" is in my hands this "Piazza Del Campo" have a too big merit. Because the return of Mauro Pagani with the PFM (also only for this concert) bore a big album. 100% Prog. The true one! Because speak of the music? I prefer to speak of the emotions that this live album expresses. Power, total musical devotion and... Immense love for a musical dream: the Prog. Because this is this live. The PFM's true return is this. The definitive Italian Prog return is this. The songs are sung in English? This isn't a problem. The musicians seems a little boys? Good! This game is a really good game (but when this game is played from Rolling Stone isn't a good game...!). And the final conclusion is here: Long life to PFM!
The RPI (and related) live reviews series vol.17 30 years passed from the first concert. When my mother celebrated its 30 years bday understood that it the moment had arrived to do a budget of its life. I think that 30 years is a great goal for a person. To appear itself for a band. "No Palco" is a testament for this goal. In true is a testament only in Prog field. But this isn't a problem. Maybe is a moment of reflection. But I Think that a thestament like this that the fans eanted. Too hosts in this concert. But all from extreme high quality. And the songs? Are good. Are a document of 70's Italiam music in the world. It ask other 30 years of success is ask too much? In every case... Thanks Banco!
