Hey friends. Well here it is, the end of July. My birthday today. And we are stratching our heads trying to figure out how to sell these 1000 or so CDs of Dissonance Rising. The reviews are great. We've received only positive press thus far and things would seem to be in place.

But there is a problem. CDs are simply sitting on the shelves. Amazon, CDbaby and CDfreedom haven't moved a disc since April. In fact, I can count total online sales with one hand. Yes, that is where we're at. So I'm turning to the prog fans and asking them for help. We need a campaign to move CDs out the door and get people to listen and enjoy. The CD is great. But if nobody bothers to buy then there is no word-of-mouth.

So I ask any of you who would like to buy a CD to just say so in this thread, or at least state your intentions and give any suggestions as to how we can best market this album.

Your friend,

Clay

Do you have a myspace page for your band, or some other medium for sharing samples? If people heard your music, the interest may rise.

When it comes to marketing - what sites/mags have been sent a promo copy?
In my opinion, www.dprp.net and www.progressiveears are two of the most important prog sites, the first due to the number and quality of reviews there making it a review resource many use, the second one due to the traffic at the site - when the review gets done and is highlighted among the 5 latest it'll be seen by quite a few people.

The metal site www.metal-observer.com should also get a promo; many readers there (although the reviewers there in general are not critical enough for me). There are probably better metal sites than that one out there, but that's the one I'm familiar with; and they boast of getting 10000 unique hits a day so guess they're not among the smallest ones.

Getting radio play seems to be a must as well. With 400 new releases a year in the segment for prog music; many of which are metal-related, getting airplay on stations with a fair amount of listeners is important. How to achieve that one I don't know though. But air play, and the word-of-mouth effect that creates if people like what they hear usually generate some sales from what I've heard (and to some degree seen happen at the small net radio I dj for).

I don't know how helpful this was, but thought I'd at least start giving some feedback here, and hope others can follow up with more knowledgable answers than I have given.

Samples on your homepage present only fragments of songs. The quality, 32 kbit/s, is too poor, it doesn't help to promote the album.
