Topic: Mac leaves Threshold Posted: July 18 2007 at 14:14 |
Unexpected and shocking news to say the least, this was found on Threshold's official website :
Threshold singer pulls out of upcoming festival shows
16 July 2007
Threshold's singer Mac has astonished his fellow band members by deciding not to perform at this weekend's Metal Camp and Earthshaker festivals in Slovenia and Germany.
Fortunately the band's previous singer Damian Wilson has come to the rescue and will perform at the festivals with the band for the first time since 1997.
Damian Wilson is currently lead singer for the band Headspace who recently supported Ozzy Osbourne for UK shows including Wembley Arena.
The following statement was made by keyboard player Richard West on the Threshold forums :
Mac was due to arrive in England on Saturday for band rehearsals, but on Saturday morning he sent us a short email saying he has to get on with his life and he's not coming. It was totally unexpected and we're all shocked by the news. Mac won't answer our phone calls so we can't get any more information from him. With two festivals to perform next weekend our only option was to cancel the shows or find a replacement singer. Fortunately our old singer Damian Wilson was able to step in and help out, he's now very busy learning the new material in time for Friday's show in Slovenia. We don't know what the long-term solution is, our focus right now is on the two festivals, we'll see how they go and take it from there.
So is this the end for Mac in Threshold ? After a series of successful and excellent albums, I have a hard time explaining myself a reason behind this, and even moreso given the rather unprofessional way his announcement was made.
Let's hope everything turns out for the better for Threshold.

^^ that is utterly shocking and dreadful news... I read the official announcement on another forum 2 days ago, but have not until now seen Richard West's comments...
...I do hope Mac gets himself sorted out before long, and returns to the band...

I know he sings in Yargos, but Threshold is by far his most successful project.

I think the most albums they made with the same line-up is two : Hypothetical - Critical Mass, and yet they keep on going. Gotta respect the guys' tenacity.
The thing is we don't know enough to judge anything ; when Dead Reckoning came out Mac said in an interview something like : If I had known it would be this good I would have joined the band sooner. So he loves Threshold, the fan base loves him, he is a great frontman and vocalist,etc... Whatever his reasons, they must be good. I just hope fans will understand and Threshold will prevail, once again.

Yes, this is utterly ridiculous and highly unprofessional. Shows what little respect he has for his bandmates and fans. Threshold should tell him to stay home permanently and find a new frontman. I like Mac's vocals but there's just no excuse for this.

I personally think they did him a favor by removing his bland vocals, but the manner that he did it is pretty disgusting. I don't understand how you tour with these guys and pour your heart into recording an album with them and then just leave them to crash without so much as an explanation. People shouldn't behave like that.

According to Karl Groom (interview with the fellow coming soon!!!) Nick is taking a break, and may someday be back. He needed some rest from the incessant recording-promotion-tour circus.

Don't jump on him, please, he might have his reasons.
Or not. Whatever, what's done is done, hope everything turns out well for all involved.

This is awful for us prog-metal lovers... their best albums were with Mac holding it (the mic...)
Well, Damian Wilson, now do us a favor and return... PLEASE do NOT allow awful Glyinn Morgan to come back....

TODAY I READ SOMETHING ABOUT MARTIN ORFORD LEAVING IQ, AND NOW THIS!!...
OK, DAMIAN IS REALLY GREAT, BUT MAC'S VOICE IS PERFECT FOR THRESHOLD.
I REALLY LIKE HIS WORK WITH THE BAND.
DEAD RECKONING AND SUBSURFACE ARE REALLY COOL.
I HOPE HE STAY WITH KARL AND THE OTHER BOYS.
AND OTHERWISE: DAMIAN, THIS TIME TRY TO STAY DEFINITIVELY...
(MY AVATAR IS A THRESHOLD PHOTO... )

I've just taken this statement off another website....
"Sorry it took so long to give this statement. But, I`m also sorry it took me so long to realise I had to get on with the rest of my life and eventually make a decent living. I know the timing was bad and I`m very grateful to Damian for standing in for me. Unfortunately it`s absolutely impossible to live on fresh air alone. Next time you listen to a Threshold album picture my girlfriend having to work overtime to make it possible for me to go on tour, not to mention all the jobs I chose to give up to continue with Threshold. Once again, the timing was bad.... I was up all Friday night (13.07.2007) considering this and decided it was time to support my family 100%. For all the Fans out there take what you have and enjoy it (I know I was devastated when Led Zeppelin came to an end). Thanks for all your support, all the best for Threshold and Threshold Fans for the future". Cheers, Mac.
I'm reliably lead to believe this is genuinely Mac's statement....
