I start this month's additions with a couple of new DVDs. Here is the first one:
EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER ~ LIVE AT THE ROYAL ALBERT HALL SANCTUARY 0351 (Barcode: 5050749503510) ~ UK ~ Progressive Rock Recorded: 1992 Released: 2007 The Emerson, Lake & Palmer reunions have been quite a regular event since the group broke up originally in 1979 (or perhaps they never did?), meeting with various degrees of success. The first reunion (in 1991) resulted in recording of the "Black Moon" album and a tour. They were all in top form, as can be witnessed by this concert at London's famous Royal Albert Hall. The concert includes just a couple of tracks from the a.m. new album and most of the material is a selection of their previous material, which is what the crowd was really looking for. Slightly rearranged, classic ELP (and a bit of Nice) material sounds as good as ever and any ELP fan will surely find this DVD a pleasure to watch. Emerson (as usual) performs some of his stage theatrics, which are always fun to watch and Palmer's virtuoso drumming is a revelation. This is classic Prog stuff and perhaps the best live ELP material available on film. 88 minutes. https://www.jazzis.com/shop/default.asp?item=102272 ===================================== Unfortunately the Jazzis Web Shop Stock Clearing Sale did not reach the target I've set for it and I have no choice but to continue it. The new end date was set for May 15, 2007 and I hope that in these 2 weeks I'll be able to downsize my stock to a reasonable level, which will enable me to continue to operate the site. ===================================== Have Fun! |

Today's addition is the last Al Di Meola Telarc release missing on my site (except his Christmas album, which I'll leave out):
DI MEOLA, AL ~ THE GRANDE PASSION TELARC 83481 (Barcode: 089408348129) ~ USA ~ Jazz-World Fusion Recorded: 2000 Released: 2000 This magnificent album by Al Di Meola was his 3rd release on the prestigious Telarc label. It is certainly one of the highest achievements in his illustrious musical career and a masterpiece of rare beauty. Accompanied by his World Sinfonia group and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Di Meola presents a beautiful suite, which mixes jazz, fusion, Latin, Tango, Middle-Eastern and classical influences together, creating a whole new genre by itself. The music was mostly composed by Di Meola, but he includes three compositions by his Mentor Astor Piazzolla as part of his uninterrupted (since the early 1990s) commitment to pay tribute to his music. The orchestral arrangements are one of the most organic and suitable attempts to combine classical orchestra with a jazz ensemble ever attempted. In short the album is an one hour long uninterrupted musical ecstasy, which should leave nobody cold. This music is beyond genres and is truly suitable for any music lover on this planet. Essential! https://www.jazzis.com/shop/default.asp?item=102274 ===================================== Unfortunately the Jazzis Web Shop Stock Clearing Sale did not reach the target I've set for it and I have no choice but to continue it. Today's addition is the new fantastic album by the Japanese prodigy Hiromi Uehara: UEHARA, HIROMI ~ TIME CONTROL https://www.jazzis.com/shop/default.asp?item=102275 ===================================== As promised, I'm working very hard on turning the Jazzis Web Shop database into a musical encyclopedia by cross-referencing all the albums between each other (using links and keywords). This is a gargantuan task, but some results are already showing. If you're interested, just click on the "Artist Of The Month - Al Di Meola" link on the Home Page and follow any of the hundreds of links available on Al's album descriptions. Another possibility is to follow the link above and take it from there. This is all quite amazing, so enjoy! ===================================== Unfortunately the Jazzis Web Shop Stock Clearing Sale has almost come to a standstill. I suppose some of you are still "licking your (financial) wounds" after ordering last month, and other just don't care? ===================================== Have Fun! |

Today's addition is the second album by the Chilean Prog Masters Ergo Sum:
ERGO SUM ~ MIXOLIDIO ROCK SYMPHONY 045 (Barcode: 7898217280451) ~ CHILE ~ Progressive Rock Recorded: 1999 - 2001 Released: 2001 2nd album by the great Chilean Prog group Ergo Sum. Following their excellent eponymous debut album, the band went through a personnel change (a new bassist and drummer) with the original drummer switching to vibraphone, which enhanced their sound considerably. The also updated their musical approach considerably, switching from symphonic Prog to a much more ambitious material, jazzier and more improvised them before. Late King Crimson and Scandinavian groups like Anglagard could serve as reference points, but the music is quite unique and original. The album consists of several studio tracks and a long suite called "Trilogia" performed live. This is a very strong album in every respect, which puts the group in the same category with other excellent Chilean groups like Tryo and Akinetón Retard. This is a reissue of the original LP, with 2 added tracks recorded especially for this CD edition. Wholeheartedly recommended! https://www.jazzis.com/shop/default.asp?item=102281 ===================================== All local (inside Israel) orders will receive free shipping from now on. ===================================== The Jazzis Web Shop Stock Clearing Sale continues - just 6 days left! 15 % discount on all items! ===================================== Have Fun! |

Today's addition is a fantastic album by the Brazilian group Armazém Abaporu:
ARMAZÉM ABAPORU ~ PEDRA GRANDE EDITIO PRINCEPS 11 (Barcode: 7898901556114) ~ BRAZIL ~ Jazz-World Fusion Recorded: 2001 - 2005 Released: 2007 1st album by the excellent Brazilian group Armazém Abaporu, which continues the work of distinguished Brazilian Masters as Hermeto Pascoal and Egberto Gismonti. Their music is a wonderful amalgam of traditional Brazilian music with Jazz and Prog. All six members of the group are excellent instrumentalists and the compositions are truly outstanding - complex both rhythmically and melodically, yet enormously enjoyable. This is one of the cleverest Jazz and World Music combinations I've ever heard and repeated listening reveals new aspects of the music every time. This new edition includes their debut album recorded in 2001 (and released privately) and live material recorded in France during their 2005 tour. This is essential listening for anybody who wished to expand his or her musical education beyond the trivial and a truly intelligent music. https://www.jazzis.com/shop/default.asp?item=102282 ==================================== All local (inside Israel) orders will receive free shipping from now on. ==================================== The Jazzis Web Shop Stock Clearing Sale continues - just 5 days left to enjoy the fantastic 20 % discount on all items! ==================================== Have Fun! |

Today's addition is an excellent jazz album from Chile:
LA PICHANGA ~ ARRIBA DE LA PELOTA PRIVATE EDITION ~ CHILE ~ Jazz Recorded: 2006 Released: 2006 La Pichanga are a Chilean trio (sax / bass / drums) playing some amazing modern / free Jazz in the best tradition of Ornette Coleman and Eric Dolphy. Two of the members (Edén Carrasco - alto sax and Christian Bidárt - drums) are also members in the amazing Akinetón Retard ensemble, Chilean most interesting Prog / RIO act. Although Chilean Prog has been making big waves in the last decade, there is very little output from the local Jazz scene and this is a most welcome release. The trio plays all original compositions by the band members and this live recording allows them to stretch out and play their hearts out. The music is quite fascinating, well based in the highly improvised free jazz tradition but also mixing at times rockier rhythms and ethnic themes. Although complex and demanding, this music should be very appealing to a wide array of listeners between pure jazz buffs to RIO enthusiasts. Highly recommended. https://www.jazzis.com/shop/default.asp?item=102283 ==================================== The Jazzis Web Shop Stock Clearing Sale continues - just 4 days left to enjoy the fantastic 20 % discount on all items! ==================================== Please note that an increasing number of items are getting out of stock as the Sale continues so don't delay your orders. Today's addition is the last of the new arrivals from Chile. Two more Brazilian new arrivals will follow shortly:
OPUS 3 ~ OPUS 3 MYLODON 039 / MUSEA 4676 (Barcode: 3426300046765) ~ CHILE ~ Progressive Rock Recorded: 2006 Released: 2006 1st album by Chilean power trio (guitar / bass / drums) Opus 3. They play a highly energetic music, which is very difficult to categorize with traces of Heavy Metal and RIO, all mixed together into a completely unique musical approach. The bass player Francisco de Borja, who seems to be the driving force behind the group, composed all the music. His excellent bass lines provide the vehicle for the manic guitar frontline. This is obviously a kind of music that is supposed to be played loud (to hell with the neighbors) and enjoyed to the max. My first impression was "The Shadows on speed", but of course that only means something to people who know who The Shadows were. Very strong debut and these young musicians might surprise us all again with their next album. https://www.jazzis.com/shop/default.asp?item=102284 ===================================== The Jazzis Web Shop Stock Clearing Sale continues - just 3 days left to enjoy the fantastic 20 % discount on all items!
