 Topic: albums that deserve better sonic production

which is that album for you that you keep listening to, because you love the music so much, but the producer/band has made it almost unlistenable? do you have an album like that?
for me it would be Liquid Visions - Endless Plasmatic Childhood Overdose
it's a very limited release and already sold out. but for me this one has a "lost classic" feeling written over it. I don't think it's the case of a bad producer, more of an album that came about very suddenly with access to not-so-good recording equipment.

Damn that album looks good. I love it here but I hate how my wish list grows so fast....
Not really prog as defined here but Black Sabbath vol 4 for me has alwasy been great but I think the band produced it themselves and thier inexperience at producing shines through. There is some great rythms in there that just fall flat because of the way they sit in the mix and the way the tone is augmented (or not augmented correctly)
Ive read a lot of people complain about the same thing in Aqualung but to me that album is sonically perfect, I have no problems with it.

Metallica's ...And Justice for All could use a remaster IMO.... Apparently, James was the producer/sound engineer for that album, and naturally for that reason, guitars and drums are very well hearable. Bass, however, is completely different........ Most of that album, they recorded without a bassist, and the bass they did put in the mix, was basically just the same as the guitar riffs. All this adds up to an album with very little bass, and a sound experience that could be so much better(the music itself is very good).

Dream Theater's debut. Musically, It's excellent, but the production is too muddy and poor for my tastes. Same with Shadow Gallery's debut. Should have been much clearer and balanced. Magellan's "Hour of Restoration" could also need a bit clearer production.

Any of the early Genesis albums, so much going on there but the sound is all over the place because of the amount of compression used oin mastering to try and get all the stuff onto a two sides of vinyl.
oh well...
Any Rush from the '80s - I'd love to hear how they'd approach some of the songs with today's sensibilities. I reckon there are some brilliant songs on the albums starting with Power Windows and ending with Roll the Bones that were emasculated because of 80s production, arrangement values (eg sh*te 80s synths, bad electronic drums, thin, over-processed guitars drenched in chorus and compression, flanged bass, too much crappy digital reverb etc)
