Not sure if this is the right forum for this.... Has anyone compared the mid 80's release of the Genesis classics on cd to the mid 90's releases. I have the 80's release of Foxtrot etc, and

I have a mid 80's issue of Trick of the Tail on CD, and to be honest it doesn't sound much different to me, to the 90's re-master. Unless you actually unhappy with the sound on the issues you have I wouldn't bother spending more money.

I reckon the early albums such as "Foxtrot", "Nursery" cryme", etc. do benefit. There's a post elsewhere in the forum (can't remember where now) which explains how significant parts of the anlogue recordings were "lost" due to the lengths of the LPs

April 18th a new SACD version of The lamb comes out! BE sure to spend a ka-gillion bucks to get an SACD player and your set!

I believe SACD CDs also work on normal Audio CD players, so presumably the new release could be an improvement for listeners with normal CD players?

The master tape of Nursery Cryme for example is terrible, digital remaster can help a bit but can't do magic, there's no way to re-create the original sound, maybe clean it a bit but if the drums spound as tin cans in the original tape, there's not much

Two things: -What is SACD? -All the Genesis records I own have a "opaque" sound, those are Trespass, Nursery, Foxtrot, The lamb and Trick. Some of them are italians, others "made in Venezuela" (which means crap) and Nursery is "made in

SACD = super audio cd, it does surround sound (if you have a 5.1 system), the difference can be heard by playing on a dvd player, so buying a specific sacd player isnt necessary

About five years ago we did such a comparison by transfering on DAT , the original vinyl version , the first CD and the remastered CD for both Genesis classics and Floyd classics. In most cases the re-master was more pleasant with the nota
