hey Porcupine Tree fans!!
what do you think about Black field?
for me it is a little popish, but I like them.
Great vocal melodies by these two guys.  I just read that Jordan Rudess from Dream Theater is going to be playing with them on this tour. Sweet!!!!!!!  |

I think Blackfield is great. I've had their first album for a while and I just got their second recently, and it's really good. And yes, I agree that it's a bit poppy but it doesn't affect either album in a negative way. Still good music!

I picked up both CDs and find them enjoyable. They are not Progressive. Maybe it's Steven Wilson'd outlet to the mainstream genre. I still prefer PT music.
I am waiting for a Steven Wilson supergroup CD. Maybe his PT inclusion of Fripp and Lifeson will lead to a one time venture with some Prog Gods for a complete work! 
Oh! Idea for a new thread perhaps?

Well before this gets too off topic, Steven Wilson is going to do a collaboration with Mikael Åkerfeldt and Mike Portney at some point, but he said it probably won't happen for a while.

Blackfield is a great band! Definitely not prog, but just wonderful music!

Great music is great music no matter what category you file it under and Blackfield's first album is excellent. Still waiting for Amazon to deliver the new cd. Should be any day....

No, he's not. The tour started a while ago (actually it may already be over, I would have to check) and I saw them live in Hamburg a month ago; keyboards were played by an Israeli guy (long time collaborator of Aviv Geffen), who also appears on the studio album. And, judging by the way the band gels and the power they have on stage, they wouldn't need anyone else in the line-up.
There are some recordings with Rudess on keyboards available for download on their site though. They don't really sound different and I think that was a one-time combination on some past occasion.

Ok, here's some older news from the Blackfield website:
Blackfield are happy to announced that Jordan Rudess will be opening for them at all of their US east coast dates in March, with a solo set. As previously announced Pure Reason Revolution will be opening act for all dates in Europe.
So he will be opening for them, not play with them as a member of the band. Maybe that's what you meant and I misunderstood.

They're pretty good. I like the first album a lot more than their second, but both are good.

I totally agree. I think that their first album fits the definition of prog more than their second one does. I cant really explain it though.
