Let me get this straight.... When a band with guitars, keys, etc. plays an Aphex Twin cover, it's progressive. But when Richard D. James plays it by means of electronics, its not.

Not that it would change the music for me at all (a rose by any other name.....), but I would love to see Aphex Twin on this site. Maybe he's too ambient (oh wait, Eno?) or he's way too electronic. But he has produced some of the most un-commercial sounding stuff I've heard (beside PA bands).

I guess my only real concern is that I believe, if added to the site, Aphex Twin would be well appreciated in the PA community. Especially works like WindowLicker, Girl/ Boy Song and the Come to Daddy EP (minus Come to Daddy).

But, wuteva, Discuss please. I need insight. Awesome cover, tho Wink thanks yime.

Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works 2 dbl album is seriously prog electronic!!!

and on the subject of bands covering electronica artists/tracks check out also this Italian band Larsen.  In 2005 they released an album called Plays  (on Important Records) which was their attempt at covering Autechre!!!  Very nice, quite droney & minimal stuff.....

Aphex Twin has always made progressive music, which has been unlike that made by any other of the 'known' modern ambient music artists.

However, I cant see him added to the archives, because of his asscociations with DJ's and rave culture. Let in Richard D James, and you'd have to let in FSOL, The Orb, Authechre, Boards of Canada, Plaid, Global Communication..

That would be fine by me because they are progressive artists. They are no more or less prog than Eno was in his day, but somehow I think the addition of artists like this would cause uproar among 'traditionalists'
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

You guys should check out this band Alarm Will Sound. They are a modern classical band, and they did an entire album of classical style renditions of Aphex Twin songs. It's incredible.
