Not only have I discovered Porcupine Tree in the past year, I've also discovered that I share a couple of pieces of music gear with Steven Wilson: namely the Badcat Hotcat and TC Electronic G System.

I've read a few things about his effects placement and it seems as though he's running everything between the guitar and the amp.  My experience is that delays and reverbs sound pretty bad in the front-end of the amp, especially with higher-gain settings.

Does anyone have additional insight as to how the band is getting their dream-like lead tones?

I share a piece of equipment with him, the PODxt Live, which I love, but I don't know about where he places his effects.  I use it in the effects loop after the amp but that I have no idea about him...
