Talk about making up for lost time.  New York musician and composer Jasun Martz, who has released very few records through the years, will have 12 CDs released in one year- one new CD per month.  He is known for his progressive associations with Frank Zappa, Eddie Jobson, Ruth Underwood, Paul Whitehead, Mark Shreeve, Jean Dubuffet and others. Many know of his classic THE PILLORY and his newer THE PILLORY/THE BATTLE, which is a blend of dark, prog, contemporary classical, noise, avant-garde and ambient sounds.

Please pass on the news.

Now, I don't know whether this is a serious new member of the forum or a frantic attempt to advertise Martz's work, but I do own a copy of The Pillory/The Battle, and have so far not been able to listen to it all the way through - not that it is bad, just very challenging.

So to take this thread away from the (I suspect) original advertising angle, does anyone else out there know Jasun Martz's work? Opinions?

I have The Pillory/The Battle and I happen to agree with you, Jim.. it's almost unlistenable *unless* you love a purely ambient (though often dark and heavy) experience. Jasun utilizes many different musics and he is brilliant, but he does not *blend* the music on a molecular level--rather, he goes from electronic to neo-classical to symphonic noise and back without attempting a new blend of it all. An amazing talent but he tends toward a demonstration/exhibition of all his influences instead of new compositional adventures, But the CD sounds marvelous and I know the reviews of TP/TB are stellar.

And that 'Battle 3' is great prog..too bad there wasn't more of that!

Please forgive me if I broke any rules of this forum.  I am a true Prog fan (but new to forums) and so I became a member... but yes, I do work at the record label that is releasing the new Jasun CDs.  The post was, I had hoped, mainly to inform. (although I guess that is advertising).  Some of Jasun’s never before heard music, slated for release later in the year, will be less challenging (think King Crimson or TP/TB Battle 3) and hopefully of interest to Prog Archives members. Thanks.
