I see some Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman and Howe, I think... there's a Judas Priest also.

A bit off topic, but here goes. I'm gonna do it, be kind.
Rush is a very good band. Moving Pictures is a prog masterpiece, no doubt about it. Everytime I hear it I get goosebumps, and there are other albums of theirs that are right up there with it.
But, I don't quite know how to phrase this, they lack a necessary quality that you need in an artist (or group artistic enterprise) to be in awe of them.
They lack a mystical quality. It's like they've never gazed into the dark abyss, and then written with that awareness. It's all too rational, too didatic.
I love Rush though, but they've, I don't know, been a rock and never rolled...

I would like to modify what I said above:
Liefson has gazed into the abyss.

Well he's been tazered and had his nose broken by the .....
They are very middle class but claim to have done their share of partying in the 70s before they grew up and took actions that have led them to having a 30+ year career. They are very middle class though....sensible is how I picture them.
Actually I think Neil Peart has stared into the abyss quite often in the last 10 years.
Maybe you are suggesting they are a touch "clinical"?
I dont agree with you but I know what you mean.
However I feel they are a band who most definitely do inspire awe in there fans at least, in fact for about 30 years they have constantly been referred to as "the legendary Canadian band" even by the most apathetic and negative members of the press.
