I was going to place this thread in the Main Discussion area but, somehow, that would give these guys too much credit as a viable progressive outfit. I don't want to argue whether or not if they're prog because they are obviously not....I mean Metropolis?....gimme a break....what a candy arsed lump of smelly, nasty turd that song is.

I think Maani's mind was clouded by just the fact of these guys being called The Church and all. You know...he's a minister and they're called The Church. Under that kind of logic, perhaps we should bring in Ministry into the archives.

gdub:

If you read my reviews, you will see that even I did not consider The Church "prog" until they released "Priest=Aura."  You apparently listened to Gold Afternon Fix, which I believe has prog elements, but which I did not classify as "prog" as a whole.  (By the way, you mention only one song.  How about the others?)

Listen to "Priest=Aura" and the succeeding albums.  The obvious prog influences (espcially PF, Moody's, some Genesis), conscious prog approach via deliberate use of prog elements, etc., put them squarely in the prog category.  Indeed, if you read the reviews of their latest album, Forget Yourself," you will see that many reviewers consider it a masterpiece, as well as a defining moment in current prog.

Peace.

P.S.  I discovered The Church long before I became a minister.

Gdub:

Strange that after I offer a reasoned, legitimate, direct reply, you and others allow this thread to devolve the way so many others have...Does this mean you are unwilling to take my suggestion and perhaps find out that you were "hasty" in your conclusion about The Church?

Peace.

Reed Lover:

There is quite a lot of good Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) out there.  And no, it is not demonic simply because it is "rock," and some conservative elements of mainstream Christianity consider all rock music somehow "demonic."

Indeed, despite what the average person may think - based on hearing only Amy Grant and maybe a couple of other "crossover" artists - there is a fairly wide variety of CCM, from "folky" stuff to "straight-ahead rock" stuff to metal stuff and, yes, even a bit of progressive (or at least quasi-progressive) stuff.  It is not easy to find, since the majority of CCM is, admittedly, somewhat "lame" vis-a-vis what most people on a site like this might listen to.  But I could easily recommend a handful of artists and, depending on one's willingness to be open-minded, some people here (and not just the confirmed Christians) might actually like it.  And although it is true that much of the lyrics of CCM are faith-driven, and non-believers may not be able to get past that, there is still quite a bit in which every other word is not "Jesus" or "God" or "Christ," etc.

Let me know if you have any serious interest here, and I will make some suggestions.

Peace.

Maani...I do not actually think The Church is a bad band. I was just trying to get your goad a bit tonight(It's Friday, afterall.....just having a bit of fun!)...perhaps you don't remember, but I had PMed you about The Church several months earlier. Sadly, I have had little luck finding them in our retail stores in the burbs, and I haven't pursued them online...YET!!, but you were very helpful and informative   This thread was  meant to de-evolve into silly nonsense so please take no offence....

c'mon....a narcoleptic on lithium.
