Hello, my name's Johann

I've been playing the guitar for a little over a year now (and fill in for drums occasionally) and I listen to a range of music:

which started with various sub-genres of metal and now I've finally moved away from that and into other genres... Sleepy must admit I'm still a 'noob' when it comes to prog, and generally anything outside of metal though.

Currently I listen to a bit of Bebop, Shoe-gaze/psychedelia, Post-punk, Blues, and of course, Prog.(such as Pink Floyd, Yes, Dream Theater, Queensryche, and King Crimson).

That's enough about me..
Any album recommendations to help get me on my way would be much appreciated :D

Welcome to Prog Archives!

Recommendations... As you like DT, I highly recommend you to check out the French band Nemo, their style is similair to DT's. You also need to know Rush, as they are one of DT's biggest influences.

On the King Crimson side of things, I recommend you to check out The Mars Volta if you're looking for some fresh, complex music bursting with energy. You should also try Art Zoyd and Univers Zéro if you like KC's darker more Avant-Garde moments (such as The Devil's Triangle on the album In the Wake of Poseidon).

Greetings, welcome to the fray. Ya might wanna check out the begginings of the prog metal scene since the bands back then could be as much metal as prog whereas the more modern progmetal bands tend to loose that metal edge. check out 'Watchtower' 'Fates Warning'  OR 'Savatage'. thats my two cents of reccomendations. see ya round.
