Topic: FRANK ZAPPA Elimination tourney Posted: January 06 2007 at 16:03 |
Well, this is pretty much the same as the RUSH tournament, just with FZ albums. Plenty to choose from, this tourney will take a while!
May the best album win, and have fun

I'm gonna start off and give one to "Ship..." because I felt it was too commercial.

Zappa's "ouchies" to my ears, so I'm eliminating him completely.
(okay, I'll behave throughout the whole tournament)

The thing with Zappa is that some of his live albums are essential to his catalogue, like Zappa in New York for example. And I understand you can't put all his albums like that up there along with them because he has so many (I have nearly all of them).

Yeah there is such an overwhelming number of albums that for now I was just concentrating on studio albums. After this tourney is finished, however, I will most likeyl do something with live albums or something of that nature.
And I'm listening to Zappa in New York as we speak

Hehe, FZ's "Ship..." was Genesis' "Abacab"

To go with the poll, I think that Thing-Fish may be one of the worst albums I've ever heard. Even Terry Bozzio couldn't save it.

Side 2 of 'Ship...' contains some of Zappa's greatest 80's work, no sh*t! 'ThingFish', however, is annoying, and 'Francesco Zappa' is just a waste of disc-space.

Fransesco Zappa.
Of what I remember from it, it didn't "do" it for me at all.

The only obvious choice for me is Thing-Fish. Of all the others that I own, this bites. (Well, I've heard most
of the album, I don't own it).
I own most of the albums put on the poll, and most of them are great!

It warms my heart nobody has touched the two guitar solo albums yet. Such a virtuoso of the instrument.

I had to go with "Absolutely Free." I listened to that alongside of "Freak Out!" and "We're only in it for the Money." It just leaves me cold.
