Topic: Suggestion for Emerson, Lake & Palmer Posted: January 26 2005 at 21:27 |
With recent changes here at ProgArchives I thought I'd see if the name of
Emerson Lake & Palmer could be changed to Emerson, Lake & Palmer. I've only noticed that Amazon doesn't use the comma, most other online databases seem to. For a lot of the first albums, "Emerson Lake & Palmer" was used, but keep in mind a lot of the time there were line breaks, so a comma could be done away with: Emerson Lake & Palmer However on the cover art of their releases in the last 20 years, almost all of them use the comma as "Emerson, Lake & Palmer" is all on a single line. |

It reflects the true name of the band, take a look at their official site.
Golden Earring used names like The Golden Earring and Golden Earrings in the past but Golden Earring is consistently used today and on all compilations. |

And maybe that's the right thread to mention: I'm wondering about the total length if "John Barleycorn must die" by Traffic, it says 35min, though adding the single songs together would result in ~60 min.

I've has this same discussion elsewhere and many people do care. I'm
pretty sure it's not just a grammitcal error made on behalf of the administrators of ProgArchives, as early cover art did not use the comma. If you don't then please don't post comments saying that. |

I'd just like to vote for Emerson Lake & Palmer...on anything... so I'm thinking you just put this question in to make me happy... However, on this: On the Trilogy cover it says: Emerson Lake & Palmer (no comma) On the next cover that has the name fully across - Works 1 - it says Emerson Lake & Palmer (no comma) The next is Works 2 - it says EMERSON LAKE & PALMER (no comma) The next is Love Beach - again no comma (and I love posting ths cover) ahhhh Again.. the Live Album - no comma The Best of ELP album... again no commas Then & Now (from 1998 - no comma) All the official bootleg cds... Red & Blue (2001) ( no commas) There's only a few that have the comma in.. such as Black Moon, ITHS, and the boxset... thats about it.. So your request doesn't seem to be correct. |

THIS IS ELP

Your right that most of the commercial releases did not use the comma, but recently it looks that the comma has been used more. The comma is mostly used on recent compilations and live releases, along with those two popular albums of the 90's . Also see the official the website's discography. You can also see Greg Lake's and Keith Emerson's official sites, both of which use more than the bare HTML standard... |

Again, please don't post if you don't have anything to contribute.
You may not think it matters, but it does affect other databases peripherally and people's tags. |

Well on the spine of the debut it says "ELP - Emerson Lake &
Palmer", ergo I suggest they should be listed as ELP! In all honesty I
don't care, though.

In my country (greenland) we have the group Kod To Grontsager who have same problems. On 1 album it has Kod,To Grontsager. on an other albums it say Kod To & Grontsager or Kod,To, & Grontsager . as i understand this problem is for the mp3 and the tag when you want play on computer or I_pod, sometime all album show in different place and can cause head problem.

Yeah it affects people with digital music libraries or databases, or
cataloguers. Searching for Close to the Edge on Google yields the ProgArchives entry at number 7 so people will find it. It seems like there are quite a few prog fans from the 70's here who might think it's pointless to worry about the correct naming of an artist, but most people these days manage their entire music libraries on their computers, I keep all mine on my hard drive. |

I also keep mine in my PC, were older than you, not dinosaurs, and I never had problems, with Emerson Lake & Pälmer, Premiata Forneria Marconi, Banco del Mutuo Soccorso or anybody else. I come here to discuss Progressive Music, not ortographic rules, or which Yes Logo I should use. Don't be so touchy, peeople must get used to jokes in this site, we try to keep a healthy atmosphere. well i agrees with ice man. if you dounload musics it can read Premiata Forneria marconi or PFM or P.F.M. and the tags not seen as same groups by the pc or player. you have to chamges them wich can be taking much times. this is rellatred to the progmuisc general tiped questions. |
