Recording maverick Ahmet Ertegun (Turkish origin) that created the famous Atlantic records has died after a few days in a coma. He was 83
Ertegun is one of those unheralded hero of the music scenes since the 50's when Atlantic Records was one of the pioneer of the jazz revolution and Bebop (Some of Coltrane's better records were on his label). Countless rock groups were also signed to his label including Led Zeppelin and Yes and countless jazz-rock also (Cobbham amongst others).
A very sad loss indeed. Edited by Sean Trane - December 15 2006 at 08:10 |

let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter keep our sand-castle virtues content to be a doer as well as a thinker, prefer lifting our pen rather than un-sheath our sword |

Yes, I already know the news. He was interested in music until the end. He fainted during The Rolling Stones concert in NY in October. He'd remained in coma since then until he passed away.
RIP... |

Coincidentally, I added the Atlantic sampler "The age of Atlantic" yesterday.

Sad. But you could say that in this case he was literally interested to the end. What a way to go... |
