Topic: Genesis Sold Out! Posted: November 26 2006 at 16:26 |
Literally! Their UK stadium shows have sold out within 90 minutes of going on public sale. Some promoters have even been advertising the show's as Phil Collin's Genesis. I guess after the dissapointing sales of the 'Calling All Stations' tour, they wanted the public to know Phil Collins was back on board as he's obviously the pulling power.
Makes me wonder if it had been the classic line up whether they could also sell out stadiums?

Hu cares? I don't. ![Wink](smileys/smiley2.gif) great, so they'll have the blissed audience and we'll hear enthuziasm all over. nothing truly important.

I wonder how much the tickets were in the end...
Not that it matters. The corporate parties and yuppies got there first, as always. It's never about the music with them, just the occasion and a day out to wear their best suits.
I'd have actually thought a Gabriel/Hackett one would have gone quicker than that. The demand would be phenomenal- Classic Rock ran a poll on most wanted reformations, asking 3 music promoters and the 5 man line-up came out on top, with Led Zeppelin.

Phil Collins' might as well start handing out sniper rifles to disgruntled prog fans to speed up the inevitable.

I'm so sick of hearing about this tour. I was really mad about this whole thing at first, but right now, I just don't care anymore. Those greedy b*****ds can make as much money as they want, good for them.

I've heard Phil Collins was having problems paying his bills, Rutherford was on food stamps and Banks was selling his body for money... so this is good news, now they can go back to what they best know, piss prog-fans off.

I think people who are expecting Genesis to go back to prog are in for a big let down. Three words for those people: GET OVER IT. They have been a pop band(with some prog elements here or there; read: throwing us a bone)for the past 20 years at least and aren't going to give that up now. Just accept that Genesis are not prog and haven't been for a very long time and move on! For crying out loud there are tons of obscure symph prog bands out there crying to be heard while a few of you are still going on about wanting or expecting Genesis to return to prog. Get real. And to be honest their pop stuff really isn't that bad on it's own terms. It's only bad when you compare it to their earlier prog stuff. Solution: don't compare it! Trust me, I've been there myself and it took me a long time to learn the hard way as well. Count me in as someone who will try to get tickets when they come to the States.

I'll try to get tickets when they come here, too (will they come near florida? I won't drive miles and miles to see THEM), but as to the "get over it" part, it's just impossible... I'm on medication, and probably I'll hurt myself IF THEY DON'T RETURN TO PROG! And that's me... I've heard some people have to sleep in cushioned-rooms because of Genesis' poppy music ![Big smile](https://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif)

I gues this puts the lie to the theory posted in a previous thread that the old prog era catalogue sells better than the new "philpop" stuff, hell none of us are going and we already have the records.

My uncle's in one of those cushioned rooms right now. He's been saying "Abacab" over and over with this stunned look on his face for the last 20 years.

The thing that gets me the most though is that Hackett & Gabriel were willing! Too bad the latter fellow takes so long to record this albums that the trio had little faith in his ability to tour before '08! Bummer. Oh well, at least we already have some great live performances to listen to. It's a real letdown for folks like me who never got to see 'em, though!

I agree that its time to move on. I always dreamed of seeing the classic line up but let's face it even if that happens (and according the publications about gabriel's schedule they will all be 100 years old by the time it will) they will never sound, feel, be like their younger selves. The seventies are over, let's support the prog of our time, these ancient dinosaurs have enough money and fame and besides they all moved on to other things, Genesis to their nauseating pop music and Gabriel to the terrific Real World label.

Talk to me! Yeah... I went to a The Flower Kings concert... wonderful, but 300 people (the place was almost full, that's how BIG the location was)... Genesis' pop crap sells arenas...
Which band does it for music's sake and which one does it for money? I think we know.
But I'll try to attend the concerts anyway... and I'll carry a lot of vegetables, mostly lettuce and tomatos in my pockets.... ![Big smile](https://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif) ![Big smile](https://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif)

The classic era albums have been sold better in the paet ten years than the pop ones, that's a fact, checking the position of old Genesis albums in Amazon (Represents 1.25% of all the Rock albums sold in the world during the past ten years, which is a valid statistical sample), a ranking based only in the number of items sold and updated each hour if I'm not wrong.
We don't know how fast the classic lineup tickets would have been sold and also I'm sure that a lot of progheads are going anyway hoping that some prog bones are thrown by Collins.
BTW: I have at least two Cd's and one LP of each Genesis album (LP, CD and Remastered Edition), so they keep selling in the Prog community and when they release the 5.1, probably some of us will get them. ![Wink](https://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif)
